Ball League, Season 1

I an going to set up two servers; Altitude Ball League #1 and Altitude Ball League #2
I will post the passwords here.
Registration Starts: February 1st

This is so i can stay in contact with everyone. If you are a co-captain You can add me also, and any player on the team can add me also.
LEAGUE RULES
The Altitude Ball League season will start "To Be Declared"
Each team will have 2 matches every sunday.
The length of season will depend on how many teams sign up.
Both matches must be played on sunday.
Every match will be allowed 1 hour game time. (if your match starts at 1, but you dont acutally play until 1:50, you better be done in 10 minutes)
The pool map is: "To Be Declared"
In the Regular season, matches will be best of 3 games.
Playoff matches will be best of 5 games
The Championship Match will be best of 7 games
I will post schedules both on this thread and on the website.
Playoffs:
Playoffs are a Double Elimination Bracket.
Seeding will be determined by how many teams make the playoffs but the best available seed will play the worst available seed.
The higher seeded team will pick the 5 maps for the match but the lower seed will select the first map.
(If Seed 1 picks maps- "a,b,c,y,z" then Seed 7 can only pick one of those for the first game, then Seed 1 the second, ect...)
Screenshots:
If your team wins a game, and an admin is not there to see it, I suggest taking a screenshot of it. You should then PM it to me or email it to me.
Why take a screenshot???
If both teams claim that they won, and no admin is there to see it, both teams will get a forfeit loss
Forfeits:
Games must be played 6v6
If one team is short a player, the game can continue 5v6
If a team has 4 players, the receive a forfeit loss
If both have 4 players, the both get forfeit losses

IN GAME RULES:
- Substitutions can only take place in between games and not during a game. This means that each player should test their connection with the server extensively before the game goes live. If a player is having problems, he should not play. If a player disconnected or their game crashes that same player may reenter the game once they reconnect. However, no other player is allowed to enter the game that is in progress. If this is violated and the opposing team wants to object then take a screenshot and send it to me with an explanation of what happened. If someone is observing and accidentally spawns but quickly leaves without impacting the game then I suggest teams don't worry about it. But if someone is being abusive then definitely let me know. This should never happen though, use startTournament.

With all due respect, you have a history of failed attempts at organizing leagues/tournaments. By avoiding communication and advice from forum admins, you seem to also be avoiding the wisdom that comes from those people having successfully run a league or tournament. I'm not saying that to be difficult... just wondering why you want to do this all on your own.
Okay, just a few pointed questions about the league:
Have you checked with Maimer to see if Altitude Pro Ball #1 is available then (currently in use for the TBD ladder, and possibly in use later on for the BALL ladder or league play during your proposed dates)? And what is Pro Ball #2? Does that even exist?
Why is there a minimum roster size of 10? You're forcing teams to have subs?
Did you ask current BALL clans and clans participating in the 6v6 ball tournament to see what kind of interest there is in a 6v6 BALL League? This is the first I've heard of this, so I'm guessing not.
Are you planning on hard wall or bouncy wall servers? With regard to the map pool, are you planning to consult with current BALL clans who have had many forum discussions about valid maps for tournaments/leagues?
May I recommend that instead of writing "TBD," you actually spell out "To be determined" so that it doesn't confuse people used to associating "TBD" with "Team Base Destruction?"
If you can sign up at least 6 clans, we might be interested in joining this league. Otherwise, we'll wait for a BALL ladder or other official league to form.

The server's, I don't need maimers, I have my own.
Yes, forced subs. Not 10 though, I'll change that to 8.
Yes, I'm sure people in the tourny will play in a league.
I'll ask ball captains what maps they want in pool.

Let's make 2 servers for this specifically. I think 6v6 is still a good size for a ball game however I wouldn't think of going to 7v7. 6v6 and 5v5 are good. At this point we are big enough to have 2 clans, so we might have a red team and a blue team or something of the sort. How many clans would be the cut off? I'd do 8 the first time around and see the intrest.

Somehow i doubt many, if any, non-ball specific clans will want to do this. If they do, that'd be great, but i dont think it's likely. {ball*} will join separately if (like tgleaf suggested) you get a few other clans to join.

Well, considering he basically copy/pasted the rules Evil wrote and replaced the specific TBD stuff with something else, I'm not sure he has any credibility left at all.
You see, all the admins of the APL, including myself, have spent a lot of time thinking about the rules, the format and everything related to the league. It certainly is far from perfect yet but we're working on improving it. And you just copy/past all we've done for your own league without even mentioning our work ? That isn't very nice.
The funny part being that not everything that works in APL would work here because 5v5 TBD and 6v6 ball have nothing in common.
Anyway, here are some constructive questions :
- You say you have the servers. Will the servers be stable and with a good ping for everyone ? Where is the VPS located ?
- Why are your regular matches bo3 ? Everyone agreed to play it bo3 in the upcoming ball tournament because it's supposed to be over in one day, so it'll be very quick. bo5 regular match and bo7 or even bo9 for the championship would be better in my mind.
- Why is there a 10 minute timer for each game ? That makes no sense whatsoever to me.
- You say it won't conflict with APL. How do you plan to do that ?

also, as well, i gave u a chance to run events in May, i told u i was planning on setting up a ball league when the time was right, which is the same time as APL s4 (people can actually expect it, without interfering with the season)
Also, just for everyone... I'm going to start running off season events that offer ranking points in the Ranking System. So i mean, your events wont have any meaning unless they are supported by us.

I copy and pasted just to take up the space. It was last night. I am obviously going to edit it, to make it more suitable for ball.
I put the 10 minute timer based on the last ball tournament (hosted pre-season) and to keep games quick and aggressive (in spirit of the day).
I would consider maybe putting 15 or 20 minutes so it becomes a lower factor in a league personally.

I understand perfectly the need of a 10 minute timer in the one-day tourney. We're limited on time, matches have to be quick. There is no problem with that.
What I can't really understand is why there is a limited time in a league like this. TBD matches doesn't usually last longer than 20 or 25 minutes (except on middleground lol), and ball matches are usually much faster than that. I think that if some matches last longer, it would be pretty lame to stop it because of a time limit. This introduces the fatigue factor and makes the overall series much more exciting.

Please consider figuring out all of the details, making your edits to the copied/pasted text, giving credit where it is due, and talking to the appropriate admins (e.g. evilarsenal) BEFORE posting this sort of idea. It really just wastes everyone's time to have to post all these questions that you didn't happen to think of.

It's enough of a challenge to run a successful league when your servers are top-notch, someone experienced is organizing the tournament, and there is no conflict of schedules. That all being said, the truth is... if you want to run a ball league on your desktop with private servers, and ask clans to participate, there's no reason I can think of that you can't do that. We just won't participate until all of the above details are ironed out.

I am going to have the servers launched on a desktop, once they are launched, I wont have to be "dragged down" by them. I guess all I got out of what you said, you don't wan't to play until it all gets figured out?

And this is something that should have been done BEFORE all this was posted. This is like saying "I am going to host the Super Bowl!" and then it turns out you don't have a field so they have to play in your backyard. (But hell maybe your backyard happens to be a football stadium)

my backyard is water lol. But, I was only saying a desktop because I thought it would have a better connection than anything else! I can see from what you all say that it doesn't. I'll just launch it they way I always do ;)

What you don't get is that all these servers that are being used for leagues and the ladder aren't being run off of anyone's computer that exists in anybody's bedroom. These servers are being run off of computers that are dedicated to hosting, located in giant rooms with thousands of other computers in them, with people whose jobs are to regularly maintain them and make sure they run 24/7. This is what is meant by a VPS (virtual private server). People like tec (who runs the proleague servers) and lam (who donated to maimer parts of his servers to use for the ladder) pay up to $20 a month to have this service.
From what I can tell, you don't have that kind of ability. Launching it "the way you always do" sounds to me like you're planning to run a server on a laptop or something. Running a server on your either your laptop or desktop is by far an inferior option compared to doing it on a VPS, so I suggest you ask around for people who run servers to see if they can lend the usage of them for your tournament. However, from the fact that you never thought of any of this in advance and you never bothered to ask anyone, it seems like they would be unlikely to offer you anything.
