View Full Version : Editor/Map feature suggestions

As suggested by lamster, thought I would start a brainstorming thread on possible features to add to the editor/map features. Here are some ideas of mine, as well as ideas posted in Maimer's map thread.


Speed hoops: Static hoops placed on the map that when you fly through them they shoot you forwards at a very high rate.

Permanent walls: Walls that only allow one team to pass through.

Rotating, oscillating, or moving sprites.

Ability to change the spawn rate of team members.

Powerups that move

Configurable turrets: able to change the starting health, damage of turrets.

Controlling parts of the map, or certain areas of the map give a bonus to airplane stats

Fog of war: Can't see parts of the map that your team doesn't occupy.

Objects on the map that can help/hinder your plane: air jets, flame jets, etc.

I know it's farfetched, but implementing Lua scripting would be a godsend; you could make just about anything you wanted with an open enough engine.

Personally, an object to use as a scale check is all I really need; when I first started making a map it happened to be about half as big as necessary.

Beyond that, some new general object types, eg speed hoops and maybe hazard spawners would be an interesting dynamic to maps, though I'm not sure how it gels with Lamster's ideas for the game.

Portals, Warp gates, Wormholes, whatever you want to call them, make it happen.

No Shoot Zone - while in this zone, you cant shoot.
Infinity Health Zone - while in this zone, you have infinity life.
Speed Zone - While in this zone, you can only go as fast as the zone lets.

With all of these combined, you can make obsticle course maps.

Of course you shouldn't be able to add these in FFA or TBD maps.
