Agreed. While I am not generally a proponent of the Ace Ranks system (I'm still lowly Rank 1), it did infuse some competitive spirit (the race to the top) and some new interest in the game, so I think it served its purpose. Sure, there were abuses and what not, but again, on the whole I think it worked.

I would love to see something that rewards competitive match play/league/tournament, but as I'm not even sure how that could be programmed successfully, I'll just be happy that ladder victories are ranked.
