I completely agree with what TD said. I think we should reserve the map test server for official game modes. I'd like to point out, however that 1DE (the mode used to make coop) is official; perhaps maps could go through a review process in which administrators review the map before it is put on the server?

Flexio, for the admins to review every map would be a big pain. On both sides, lam doesn't want to spend his time like that, and they put this server up for people to have easy access in testing maps.

I think the test server should just be reserved for ball and tbd

How about 1dm, 1bd, and 1de (or whatever they are)? We can't leave those out either.

Coop maps also unfortunately are 1de game type, so it would be impossible to differentiate between real 1de maps and coop maps.

You know... there are ffa, ball and tbd troll/fun maps so that would not work + Lamster/Karl would have to do this, maybe have the maps that are low rated (ie. 1/5) stars or something like that to be removed from the map test server automatically after like 1 week of grace time (There must be at least 15 votes) or other number.

TD that's a good idea, I'd say if it stays below 2, with like 10-15 votes. It should be removed. This would also encourage people to vote so they could make their fav maps stay on.

Yes I like that idea as well. Not only would it encourage people to vote, but it'd be a good mechanism for removing poor maps.

With the just the number of people on mumble, we could veto any map regardless of it's quality with this number. Too many and it never goes into effect. Too few and its too easy to troll.

Well not really.. the map will still have a grace period around a week or so and the creator/other players who plays it on the week will rate it.

As of now Ratings for maps are useless, just a 'wow' factor to give you encouragement or the other way around.

Add: I did not mean 10 should be the right number... it was random.

TD: You noted that the number given was a sample flexable number. Giving a map a week grace period sounds like a worthy solution against what I said.

This is still an issue. At this point, basically 4 ideas have been presented:
  1. Review process: maps are administratively reviewed to make sure they are acceptable
  2. Removal of all game modes except Ball and TBD
  3. Removal of 1DE
  4. System that removes low-rated maps from the server

Personally I think the first idea is still the best option. One person pointed out the issue of time (too much work to review them). In respone to that, maybe other responsible users could be 'recruited' in order to help review the maps? Overall this option would prevent co-op maps and other 'fun' maps that are tbd/ball without having to restrict other game modes. Adding other people to help with the process would be icing on the cake.

I would like to hear something from the developers.

What if you combine Idea 1 & 4 that is,

Administators would review maps that are low rated and they would choose if it would stay or not, they would then wait until there another map update from the creator within a given time to make it better and meet the minimum standards, if the Creator does not update his map nor change anything and the map is still below the standards, it would then be removed from the Test Server.

The map test server appears to have crashed again. It is nowhere to be found on the list of active servers. Can we get it rebooted please?

Yeah, it was definitely acting up... it was very 'glitchy' the other day and I swear half of the maps were gone... then the whole server was gone... oops.

is there a way that you can add a disable/enable bots function?

often times we want to test angles and such on new maps, but the bots do not cooperate (damn you explodet bot).

for example

/vote bot1 true
/vote bot2 false
/vote bots false

(Just my .02)... It is very distracting to have bots around while trying to learn a new map layout, finding the best shot angles, and locating those trickshots... *Please..?*

Some malformed maps are causing problems. Map Test will be down until further notice. We'll need to implement additional filters to check for malformed maps before bringing the server back up.

Looking forward to a more stable test server. Also, elixer has an excellent idea about the bots. They're useful sometimes to test when other folks aren't around, but more often than not they're a nuisance.

It also makes co-op and the test server look bad and is no fun for any of us :/

Who agrees with me ?

+1 ... They have basically hi-jacked the Map Test Server and turned it into a unofficial co-op playground...

We miss you, Map Test Server...

Maps do not contain settings of this sort.

Dem, correct me if wrong, but I believe the time limit is set in the individual server,... via the Server Configurator Settings for 1DE Maps...

Round time for 1-life mode is set by the map-maker, in seconds (default 120).

Overall match time (e.g. 30 minutes) can be set server-side.

David, might be better to create a new topic if you're having trouble with the map editor instead of hijacking the map test server thread.
