Default Suggestions for next season?

I don't have any firm plans for next season yet. I'm just going to spend the majority of the next two weeks coding whatever comes to mind or is suggested.

There are admin features that would be very helpful, but that is relatively low priority for the next two weeks. I will work on them if time allows, but these mostly can be added at any time. And admins can talk to me or use the admin forum/discord for any admin specific suggestions.

However, it might be slightly easier to finally remove the password from ladder and enforce rule acceptance for a new season (must accept rules before all chat can be used or playing ladder). So I will likely work on getting that done.

Features that are important to get done in the next two weeks are those that would have any affect on ladder ratings or stats. If there aren't really any, I will spend the time improving the website instead (return of player profiles, game pages, etc). I could work on things like map stats per player and best teammate/worst enemy as well.

I will try to at least bring back TDM by the start of next season as well to help pass the time when there aren't enough players for Ball. If I have time I will re-add 1DM and possibly 1DE too, but again these ratings/seasons are separate so don't have to be ready for the new season to start.

Removing the password from ladder will change it from the essentially pub status that it currently has to actual pub status. How often are admins in ladder to enforce said rules? They aren't there all the time, so why would we want people to invite people who would intentionally troll and don't already know the password/aren't bothered enough to find it? We already had a test of the, "oh hey do you accept the rules?" test in Carlos' ladder iirc. Most people just did the command to see the rules and immediately hit the command to accept them without actually reading any of it.

So I'll ask it again: how do you plan to enforce said rules?

I really can't see removing password changing much. It is more changing it from having to enter a password everytime joining server to only once (possibly might have to reaccept if any major rule change). If it becomes necessary I could add additional restrictions , but I really don't think that will be necessary unless Altitude ever gets a large influx of new players.

I may require a short 3 or 4 question quiz to make sure they have been read or at least the most important rules are known rather than simply entering a password or something like that.

In the unlikely event there are problems it will be simple to re-add the server password of course. Rule acceptance would stay though.

that is something that i thinking about. If i am not wrong the way vanish algorith is making the 2 teams with a equal goal skill, if you take in consideration all their members.

This is, in theory, a good idea, as goals are one of the most important thing, both teams have the same goal oportunity.
BUT there is a problem, 2 o 3 bips or loopies can not be as good as having a good randa, and people with low goals always being paired with good randas. That is why whales performed so well in the last goal season. and that is why loopies and bip were so terrible ranked.

in my opinion there is a fantastic solution for this, imagine the 12 players selected for play are the following:

1th 1000 points 0,2 goals per game
2th 3000 points 2 goals per game
3th 700 points 0,4 goals per game
4th 2000 points, 1 goal per game
5th 2032 points 1,3 goal per game
6th 1012 points 0.8 goal per game
7th 1212 points, 0,4 goals per game
8th 2323 points, 0,1 goals per game
9th 2800 points, 0,5 goals per game
10th 100 points 0,1 goals per game
11th -100 points, 0,3 goals per game
12th 400 points, 0.34 goals per game

my idea is that the system took the 2 players with the best goals per game stadistics, regarless their points, in this case we will have this early selection:

TEAM RED TEAM BLUE


2th player (2 goals per game) 3000 p - 5th player 1,3 goals per game 2032p

once you get these 2 players who will be in the most cases, RANDAS (and very good ones), the system make the teams taking account just based in raw rating, with no other consideration or even if you want you can take into accoung goals, but at least you put the 2 randas together.

what do you think?

I dont understnad, 1th-6th its red team and 7th-12th blue team? must be something different.

You are saying that system consider all players goals and it should put the priority on the 2 randas goals? It shouldn't change much the balancing, what if you don't have 2 similar randas for goals scored?

Goals will never be removed from the team balancer as games are clearly far more balanced overall with it. Some of you don't seem to remember clearly the time before it was implemented where lopsided games were much more common. It helps ensure we don't have overly strong offensive teams which tend to win 6-0 or close to it. Good to great o

We can maybe consider adding more stats to the balancer, which would in effect make goals weighted slightly less.

Don, I will look tweaking the balancer to address what you are talking about, although probably in a different way. I really don't like always forcing a #1 and #2 on different teams (unless they were both way higher than #3). However, I am willing to add some additional checks to try and make sure something like players with a goals per game average > 1.5 are specifically balanced well between the two teams. Just an example of what I might do, but I would need to think more about how exactly to implement.

The problem I see is that if you are not a randa player but have randa like goal stats, players in your team feel forced to play randa, even if it's not their main plane. So the match becomes a crappy 5v6 every time.

Taking last season goal stats:

{SWN}Fartface 1.89
{ball}mssv 1.79

Balancer will put us in different teams. But then while Fart is just playing his randa and everyone in his team is happy, I'll have one guy in my team that feels forced to play randa, a guy with low goal stats that thinks he must carry the weight of scoring. Game becomes a painful 5v6.

Balancer is making it right, but most players don't understand the balance between kill flow and ball management. Having Fart in the other team and playing without a randa is balanced since my team will have a higher kill flow, but then someone in my team is breaking that balance by playing randa trying to be Fart's counterpart.
