What about adding turrets with a mini landing strip that planes can land on and take over control of a turret?
Also what about re-introducing the old turret health pickup? |

Well, I can imagine controlling turrets as a possibility when waiting for a respawn.. Player who's been shot down could pick up a turret and control it for a while, maybe even keep controlling it if he doesn't want to spawn yet.
But landing at them and controlling them while you're alive would distract from the actual gameplay. And you would be an easy target when landed at a turret.. Reparing (healing) the turrets seems like a nice idea to me though! In general, I don't like that the turrets are overlooked and don't play much of a role when defending a base.. Experienced player can almost always deliver the bomb without being shot down (at least on current maps). I would like to see the turrets play bigger role so they would have to be destroyed in order to get to the base. Maybe make them stronger or make them fire faster? |

Maybe you could play as the base too! So when planes landed on the base you could press the primary fire to give them back full health and then secondary fire to launch them off back to battle!

I was going to do the usual thing of irreverent tongue-in-cheek humour to show the failings of the OP idea but seeing as the theme of this post has now been set to big bad grumpy critic mode: 1. AI Turrets already have pinpoint accuracy 2. Humans do NOT have pinpoint accuracy 3. If you want to play as an immobile base defense system you're playing the wrong game |

i'm not sure, but did the OP meant that you could land next to an enemy turret and then have the turret become yours? i.e. change to be on your team.
that is much less lame than what the rest of you guys are thinking of and in fact i can envision a pretty fun alternate game mode in which the map is initially filled with neutral turrets and the goal is to control 90%-100% of the turrets in the map before the enemy does. |

Personally I feel that anything that would let players be even more distracted in matches would be a negative effect. There are already so many nubs who sit there flying in circles and not really helping the team. Just imagine what it would be like if they could land at turrets. I could see a game turn into me and one other person actually playing while the rest of the nubs fly around to turrets to fire at people.

I think that strenghtening the turrets could bring more tactics into the game. Right now it's a waste of time to try to destroy turrets as you can fly past them most of the time (maybe except the asteroids, the turrets there are well placed). Quote:
And don't be so grumpy, cheer up!

Don't forget the panic button. Clicking this button shall immediately self destruct your base for safety precautions.

And, like I said, I was going to do the usual pointless cheerful mocking but there was something about your suggestion that rubbed me the wrong way and I just felt like being grumpy. Probably the part where you talk about turrets being unable to take down players like its a bad thing. To continue this serious tone, it just seems like an idea that has had no thought put into it. Where is the fun in being forced to kill turrets if you want any hope of flying through certain areas? Killing turrets by yourself is already tedious, and the only people who bother are new players who can't get XP any other way. When you're making a serious suggestion, consider that games are meant to be fun. When you're designing anything, you need to stop and ask yourself 'wait, is this fun?' |
