First off, nice to see the website actually being all fancied up now.
But right, onto the video... it's a bit weak, imo. I think the problem is that you're trying to be too honest and show an actual snippet of gameplay. What I thikn would work better is the following: 1) turn off player names and tell everyone to shut up during filming. this makes it prettier. 2) have a set plan for very specific **** you want to do. take a look at the old alt videos for inspiration, but really you can ignore how the game plays and just go for cool looking stuff. have fleets of bombers raining down hell, etc. this doesn't mean you can't still use real gameplay features (explodet knocking guys into a wall is still great), but just go for a bunch of quick cuts with maximum punch. |

There's a video capture mode. Maybe you should play the game sometime.
Also I can't find a free program that doesn't make the backgrounds look like crap. |

Agreed -- the current video is a placeholder, never meant for public consumption.
1) There is a console command, /captureMode true, that removes all unnecessary UI (chat, health indicator, respawn HUD). Names are a tough call -- the game definitely looks a bit prettier without them, but you lose the sense that this is an online game where all the planes are controlled by real people. 2) I have no pretensions of being too honest to punch up the video with transitions and choreographed encounters -- every other game trailer on the planet does it so it's only fair that we compete on even ground. Our main barriers to producing a good video are lack of time and lack of experience/tools for video editing. We'd love it if the community could help us produce a great promo video. We need (A) raw footage (great moments or choreographed scenes) -- for this you need to run the game in capture mode (type "/captureMode true" into the chat window) and use a program like FRAPS to record video at 30 fps. (B) sexy video editing -- need someone who owns and has experience with the relevant tools Anyone interested? |

I just downloaded some video capture software for my computer. Assuming that the program works well I might be able to put something together. I have video editing software so I can probably come up with something decent. If you have any requests for effects / transitions / etc, let me know.

I have been experimenting with recording different videos and I am wondering if anyone has any insight as to what compression I should use for the best quality.
