Default Kudos for the Altitude Team

Hello,

I would just like to share my experience with setting up an altitude dedicated server at my home, which I had done a few days ago. I hadn't actually read any information on dedicated server beforehand, and I am technically literate.

The install was a breeze. Easy enough. I opened up the server configurator and could easily see how to change the default server. So I hit the edit button, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see a whole list of options. I had a look through all of them, and the first thing that came to my mind was "Awesome, no text files to edit!". This makes it a whole lot easier! I was also surprised by the amount of options I can change for voting, overwhelming and so much control over the voting options - and still easy as pie to setup.

The downsides I came across aren't significant, but just a little inconvenient. These are things like having to reboot the server every time a change is made. This doesn't matter too much after the main setup is done and most things aren't going to change very often. I was a bit confused when trying to add myself as admin. I could only certain characters and it wouldn't work. I left that bit though in favour of using rcon. Only yesterday, I figured that, that admin option needed Vapor ID's and I'm not sure if this is true, but I'll look into that later. The other main thing I would is remote rcon from another machine, so I don't have to join in the game. From what I have read, I think this maybe in the works and someone else on here has created a simple tool to execute an rcon command from the same machine without join the game.

Overall, very pleased with what you guys have created. Even if Altitude is a simple game (and not as commercial as other Valve games, and Activision and EA etc), I think this server is the best to use and setup. Thank guys.

ashrat, when you log in to altitude there is a pop up with a link to assist people in setting up their own servers. Within that there is help with port forwarding and other common FAQ's. Hope that helps.
