chat and log-in ideas

Hi, i have two ideas. they both seem reasonable to me, and i think theyd be appreciated.
1.) When you log in, i think there should be a small tab (like the small tab that opens saying you have a friend request) that would tell you if a friend had changed their name! i hate having to ask people in my friends list 'what was your old name??'
2.)i think it would be kind of nice if (like facebook) when your chatting, it would show a little

..
...
like an animation 1 dot at a time of ...
to show you someone was typing! sometimes someone is typing something long and you cant tell if they are typing anything at all, so that'd be nice imo.

I like the latter suggestion. It would help the chat experience alot. I know a few site that have that, it is awesome. The first one isn't necessary, you can use Altbouncer, or something to figure that out - If a friend changed their name.

Altbouncer is nice but it doesn't replace the requested feature, it can take some time until the new name becomes available on altbouncer. I spent one whole weekend wondering who some guy was, and when it finally became available on altbouncer, he had changed back to his original name.
