Default "Saves" in ball

So this has probably already come up. It was being discussed on the server I was on and decided to post what we came up with. Two major ways to set this up:

Easier way - Set up a "save" area. Any time you catch an opponents ball in the save area you get one save, no matter whether it was going in or not. This could be a small area outside of the goal area, and wouldn't be very hard to implement.

Harder way - Keep track of the path of the ball and how far it will go in say 2 to 4 seconds. If it was going in and an opponent catches it before it goes in it's a save. Might be much harder depending on the way the game is coded, but would give a much more accurate number of saves a game.

This way you get assists and goals (and kills) for people who are mostly attackers and kills and saves for people who are mostly defenders.

Completely agree. I was in that game

Anyways, ideally the "save" system would work best by combining the 2 metrics laid out in the OP. The game should calculate the path of the ball and you should only get a "save" if the shot was going to go in, but I also think that you should not get a "save" by blocking a shot very far away from the goal. I understand that a shot going in is a shot going in, but realistically i think "saves" should be saved (lol) for the shots that are about to go in.

If they decide against the "saves" metric, another defensive attribute they could track could be "ball carriers killed." Much easier to program and it is another important aspect of ball. Also, should be put in TBD as well.

Even if these new stats aren't added to the end-of-game screen, a little "Save! +10" or something stylish along those lines would be neat.

Really no love for saves? Every time I talk about it in game everyone seems to love it...
It doesn't seem all that difficult either...

meh, would just encourage more people being useless to the team by saying they're the "goalie"

Every time someone suggests a new stat people come in saying "it will encourage X which is bad". What if all those stats were actually available? People would simultaneously do all those bad things like killing, saving goals, and scoring goals as all of those are stats then? Doesn't seem like bad play to me...

I fully support adding a stat for saves. Preferably this would be calculated just like was suggested as the "harder way", ie. the game calculated the path of the ball and if it had gone into goal without the plane being there or not.

Hey totally agree on this. Not only does it give a sense of accomplishment for defensive players, but indicates to new players that it is actually important to focus fire on the carriers rather than doing their own little TDM in every ball/tbd game.
