The following servers have been update with new maps:
|HF|Ball Frenzy (RIT) |HF|Binarian's Dojo #1 no lag (RIT) The new maps are as follows: ball_arcanum ball_atmosphere ball_cavern ball_colosseum ball_cross ball_cube ball_doodle ball_excel ball_funnelpark ball_lazer ball_mayhem ball_ocean ball_pixelized ball_risk ball_sideshow ball_skullisland ball_star ball_superlazer ball_thorns ball_woods All official Altitude Ball maps are still present. The servers are configured in the following manner: Ball Frenzy: Standard ball maps constitute the rotation. All of the above maps can be accessed through /vote changeMap Dojo #1: Both standard ball maps and the above maps constitute the rotation. /vote changeMap can be used to change to any map. I require input on what maps I should make as part of the rotation, what maps should be included in the list, and what maps should never be seen again. Please post according to your preference. |HF| bin Last edited by |HF|Binarian; 10-05-2010 at 05:36 PM. |

10/6/10:
Server install is not going well. Linux's GRUB seems to be incompatible with the hardware. Multiple options remain, all of which are complex and annoying. All servers *should* be up one way or another by the end of the weekend. Apologies for the delay. To come: Continued PHP updates with better-defined messages, error checking, etc. |HF| bin |

10/7/10:
Server upgrade/installation has reached second last attempt. Next attempt will resort to minimal XP installation with Debian VM. Although this will still limit resources, it will not be nearly as bad as the "current" configuration. Should have a good chunk of time to work on this Friday; Saturday will be dedicated to various work related items and any extra server configuration. To come: Continued PHP updates with better-defined messages, error checking, etc. |HF| bin |

Last ditch effort on server installation will still run better than a VM: a live CD. I have great faith that this will work successfully. |HF| bin |

SERVERS ARE UP! Current solution: Formatted drive to be empty space, and am running linux off of a live cd. Current status: Full standard servers are up and running successfully. NO SPECIALIZED COMMANDS are utilized as of yet. Next step: get mysql and php running on the live cd. THEN (if i can) redouble my efforts to get debian running locally instead of a cd. |

Lady and Gentlemen (I'm sure there has to be ONE girl that plays this game), it is my pleasure to announce that WE HAVE LILO! Which is better than GRUB apparently. AKA Debian is now running natively, and should be amazing. To do (estimated times): Download the altitude files (2 minutes) Download mysql (10 minutes) Configure mysql (5 minutes) Download php (10 minutes) Configure php (5 minutes) Edit sudoers (1 minute) Edit PATH (1 minute) Copy spare/custom files/scripts (5 minutes) There is a possibility that I may be able to do this before work tomorrow (today, considering that it is 1AM); if not, your favorite |HF| servers should be up, running, and fully functional by the end of Friday! |HF| bin |

Well had a major setback today. If what I believe is correct, then not only is my hard drive corrupted because of overpartitioning, but I think my BIOS is now corrupted, requiring a bios flash. This will take what is commonly called a long time. So sorry. |HF| bin |

I won't even make a wisecrack about the date... Current situation: Altitude is installed on a native Debian installation on an IDE drive. PHP and Mysql is installed. The problem? server_launcher doesn't work! No idea what is going on there. I am looking into it, and I believe lamster will be helping me as well. More updates to come. We are so close! |HF| bin |

Just added an admin-controlled !restart command for restarting a map. This is useful for when map downloads take up half of the round; An admin can simply restart the map with an easy command so the people just joining can play a full game. Additionally, it seems that I can restart the PHP patch without restarting the server, so the only reason that the servers should not be running at any given time is if the computer loses power or if I am trying to get my SATA drives working again....which I will not try for a while. Have fun, Play hard! |HF| bin |

A checkpoint for what we currently have to offer: SERVERS: |HF| Ball Frenzy (RIT): Equivalent to Bouncy #x |HF| Private Server (RIT): A private server for |HF| members |HF| Dojo #1 (RIT): Equivalent to Dojo #2 |HF| 10 minute FFA #1 (RIT): A bouncy 10 minute FFA |HF| 50 kill FFA #1 (RIT): A bouncy 50 kill FFA |HF| 10 minute FFA #2 hardcore (RIT): A hardwall 10 minute FFA |HF| 50 kill FFA #2 hardcore (RIT): A hardwall 50 kill FFA All servers are on a network with fast bandwidth, so lag should be minimal on the server end. All servers have standard maps in normal rotation except for Dojo #1, which includes: arcanum atmosphere cavern colosseum cross cube doodle excel funnelpark lazer mayhem ocean pixelized risk sideshow skullisland star superlazer thorns woods The above maps are also available in Ball Frenzy, but are not part of the standard rotation. You can access them through /vote changeMap. All servers have the default settings regarding user commands (such as vote, testPlaneScale, etc.). In addition, the following extra features are in place: All servers have: A MOTD A Help message A GL and HF message at map change !help command (displays the following options) !session command: displays your stats since you have been connected to the server !restricted command: displays any restricted plane configurations that may be present (none yet) !tournament command: deals with tournaments. Not yet relevant. !restart command (admins only): restarts the current map. is equivalent to changeMap CURRENTMAP, only it is faster. Any suggestions for additional commands are welcome. |HF| bin |

10/14/10:
As per request, I will be launching yet another server consisting of 2 ball maps: snow and cube. These will both be in standard rotation, and will act exactly the same as 10 Football idea. AKA, it's 10 minute football without the football map. If you want any other maps in the standard rotation, send me a PM. Being a college student, I have heard and emitted numerous "language". I am not opposed to it. Having said that, I will not tolerate people who send all of their comments in caps, complaining about this or that, and swearing non stop. This is just useless flak, and there is already enough of that flying around the battlefield. If I or another admin is present, you will be removed purely at their discretion. If you want to appeal/object, you may rejoin and talk to the admin after the 2 minute ban period. |HF| bin |

10/15/10:
In addition to the aforementioned 10 minute snow and cube maps, I will also be adding an |HF| Acid Ball server. This will be significantly different than any other server I host, and is indeed different than any other server I have see so far. It will be a standard ball server with only non-standard maps in rotation (official maps will be in the map database for a vote changeMap). If I can find them, I will include the "fun" maps. This server will heavily incorporate the PALP patch; it will randomly change zoom factors at random intervals, making gameplay that much more interesting. I recently stated in-game that I will be offering server space either for free or for a low cost, I have not yet decided. This was planned to be on a dedicated server different than the one that |HF| servers are running on; however, in the interest of whatever, I will reconfigure the |HF| computer to allow other users to run their own personal servers. |HF| bin |

Just successfully added shortcut team switch and suicide commands: !s and !k (short for switch and kill). The 3 second spawn delay is still in effect; also, these commands currently only work on |HF| Ball servers. To come: make all |HF| servers do this. |HF| bin |

10/27/10:
Current server status: Have a total of 11 servers for various purposes. |HF| Training is a hardwall ball server with no bots. Every map I have is in standard rotation. |HF| Kill the Carrier is a project heavily incorporating PALP. I am working on it as much as I can, hopefully it will be up shortly after Thanksgiving. PALP files can be found at the normal location, in addition to the |HF| map repository site: bbxp.rh.rit.edu (I know it doesn't look like a webpage, but it is). Additionally, there is now a ventrilo server running (ventrilo is a VoIP service). The details: Server: bbxp.rh.rit.edu Port: 3784 Only 8 clients can connect atm, I am working on fixing this. Additionally, there is a non-HF mumble server: Altitude Public Server tecslice.gotdns.com 64277 |HF| bin |

CONGRATULATIONS to Birdkilla on being the newest HF member! As for the servers, they are currently up and running, without the PALP patch. I am doing testing with my "JALP" patch, which is well underway, and *might* be finished this weekend. Following that, I will be continuing on with Kill the Carrier. Play on! |HF| bin |
