Default Nationalities on Ladder Website

Hey guys

So as embarrassing as it is, when I'm looking at the ladder website, there's a lot of flags I can't recognize. It makes me mad because I'm interested in where people are from. Could we implement a system where under each flag, it says the name of the country?

I feel like a real life noob :0 but noobs gotta learn about the world

Also, if there's a mistake, how can we fix that?

I'd say this is a better place for it. Suggestions is really more for Karlam to look at for Alty, not ladder.

The system was basically written nearly a year ago by eth. I could look into how it works and then add the functionality of it naming what country it is, but it's not very high priority for me to do that (just learn the country yourself!).

As for the mistakes thing, the system that figures out what country you're from is actually not written by anyone who developed ladder, I think eth is using some free system we downloaded off of somewhere else. Back in the day Maimer used to go in and manually fix all mistakes in there (when a flag is wrong or when it is showing no flag) but he doesn't do that anymore. Not sure if I'd be willing to start doing that.

I suggest you just get used to having an American flag, being American is better anyways.

What you could do if you have some good free time is go to any site with all the countries' flags listed and look for them there. Obv this is tedious, but the advantage is you get to also learn about other countries' flags that you wouldn't look for otherwise, thereby further enhancing ur knowledge of world flags

Is it sad that I do this on a regular basis? O.o

If you know html, the class of the flag has the countrycode in it. You can look that up.

yeah or that, learning the flags is pretty simple + altitude has a small community on top of that the ladder player base is even smaller...its not that difficult.

Ladder website uses information from http://www.hostip.info/. You can fix location for your IP there, and ladder may eventually use it.
