Default Review of a Specific Server/Admin

Yesterday at approx. 5:30PM, while playing on the "Official #3 - FFA+TBD+Ball - no max ping" server an Administrator decided is would be fun to use my username to provoke derogatory remarks and statements. I understand that their will be things like this that occur, but to actually be able to utilize one's username within the game is considered a hack and is tasteless.

I am a fan of Altitude and will continue to play, but I would hope that someone would review this complaint and be sure that those who run/operate the servers adhere to standards and qualities.

Thank you for your time.

Administrators do not have any power to copy names, and I can assure you that your harasser was in no way affiliated with Nimbly Games. Every nickname is unique -- nobody, including administrators, can use the same nickname as you -- but some names (such as those containing an uppercase i or lowercase L) can be closely mirrored to appear similar (every user can change his nickname under Options -> Account). To report a player for harassment first get their VaporID (press F3 to open the console, then listPlayers to show Vapor IDs), then send an email to support@nimblygames.com.

What you probably experienced was damdirtyape trolling. He routinely says a comment - then adds a bunch of spaces then your name with some text. He always makes people say strange things and most people don't really understand it cause it looks like a real message (mostly).

Keep in mind you can always mute the offender by right clicking on their name and clicking mute.

Wow. That's mature... I've also had this happen to me but since I read this thread beforehand, I knew what was going on.

Mods, can we make this a bannable offense if it is not already?

I wish we could have over 25 years old games lol

That would be a really dumb thing to ban someone for doing this. Its just for a little fun. If you can't handle it then mute the person that does it or just ignore them.

Hehe, I love text wrapping tricks. I like doing this in Minecraft, but since I tend to play TBD with its colored names, I've never done it in Alti.

A couple things you need to know: (a) forums moderators have no control over server bans, and (b) server admins could decide to make this a bannable offense but... how would they know/enforce it, and each server has its own admins.

As was suggested here, this form of hazing often happens to clans or individuals who invite it upon themselves through their annoying behavior. I'm not saying that is always the case, or that it warrants such a response, but it is part of the problem.

So not only are you excusing this behavior. But you're blaming me for inviting people to do it to me?

A. I did nothing to provoke it. I'm one of the most levelheaded people playing and don't say, or do anything to piss people off. Whoever did it to me did it completely unprovoked.

B. Misrepresentation is wrong. In any sense. It can be abused and put people in situations that they didn't need to be in. Just because you mute them doesn't mean they're not slandering your name. Not seeing it does not make it go away.

C. If this is your idea of FUN... Go join 4chan forums. That's about how mature they are over there.

D. Itd be extremely easy to ban for it. Simply take a screenshot of it. It does look similar, but you can tell a difference. Chat logs would help too.
I mean honestly... Play the game and stop screwing around in chat.

If you were really mature you wouldn't be bothering what irrelevant people say in an 2d plane chuter game. Also, welcome to the Internet.

Ignorance is not bliss. Indifference is bliss.

Generally level headed people don't make threads about how someone used their name to say stuff. They let what is a harmless joke lie. I cannot think of anything which invites this kind of behavior than making a thread complaining about them. The internet is full of attention whores, doing this only encourages them.

If someone calls you names or impersonates you comically in real life, you don't run to the nearest authority figure, you shrug it off. Same thing applies here.

We never meant to give players the ability to impersonate others. The text-wrapping trick described isn't perfect, but it's clearly good enough to cause confusion. This "trick" will be removed in the next patch. Please continue to report exploits like this -- we are more than happy to fix them. This thread is drifting off-topic; locked.
