Homophobia in altitude?

Does it bother anyone else?

A bit of banter between players only enhances the game but it annoys me that homophobic slurs seem to be so prominent.

Maybe I'm being a bit sensitive about the issue but it certainly is one of my pet peeves. I understand that its up to the server admins to moderate the games and to be fair normally when I call players out on calling everyone gays or fags they pipe down so I guess that's sufficiently self regulating.

However when there are players with nicks like "fag killer TM" (VaporID: 0915a400-5638-4da7-95b5-657379022077) then I think it's up to altitude itself to step in as I for one don't feel that's acceptable.

In Options>Account there are options to "Suppress Names" and "Filter Swear Words". If you have a problem with what people say and what nicknames they choose, I would suggest you do one or both of those things.

I would also suggest you grow a thicker skin.

Calling someone gay while ranting is hardly that big a deal. Calling oneself FagKiller on the other hand is something quite different imo.

My skin is plenty thick enough, I am not personally offended by such words as such.

My view is that it's a bit unnecessary. Obviously the people that throw the words around do not actually hate homosexuals but are more likely ignorant kids. My post was not saying that I think these people should be banned from the game or anything; just that such casual ignorance annoys me. Can you justify to me how it's acceptable to call someone a fag on a computer game when there are plenty of more playful words to choose? Swearing is not an issue -the filter works well if you need it and anyway I doubt there are any 4 year old altitude players. This isn't about me being a prude it's just my personal disdain for people that throw around words that are traditionally loaded with a lot of hate.

As for fag killer, most probably a joke but do you find it funny?

I've just realised that I've come straight to the forums with a minor negative thing. I must stress that I bloody love this game and spend way too much time playing it - for the most part because of the great team spirit/rivalry between the players

I didn't say it was justifiable, nor do I believe such.

Is it unnecessary? Sure. Is it ignorant? Sure. Is it the internet? You bet'cha. You hit the nail on the head with "ignorant kids". There will always be foul mouthed people on the internet; it's just the nature of the beast. Trolls gonna troll. Sharing with the offensive individuals that you don't approve and then ignoring it is all you can really do.

Unfortunately this sort of behavior is commonplace and difficult to suppress. As suggested, ignoring trolls is usually the best medicine. In particularly offensive cases like this you can report the user to support@nimblygames.com and we will be happy to force a name change or ban repeated offenders.

Worst thing for spammers and hate-speakers is to be completely ignored. Why not to have an option to mute somebody on entire server (by admin or poll, invisible to affected guy). Spammer can continue with his stuff, without knowing that he is ignored by everybody.

I've banned the vapor ID you mentioned from official servers whenever I've seen him/her, with a warning to "change your name" first.

I'm offended by such nicknames and by the use of "gay" / "fag" remarks, but I've gotten somewhat used to the fact that 95% of the players here don't mind it, so if I want to play I have to be okay with some level of offensiveness. For example, when I ban that player, people always respond with "Why did you do that?!"

As others have mentioned, you can mute players, but I still think it's offensive and don't usually mute people because as a server admin on several servers, I need to know what people are saying (good, bad, and otherwise).
