New Maps - One Day Ball Tournament

So we have a fair few new ball maps recently that don't tend to get played much which is generally sad.

I propose that we have a series of one day ball tournaments, bo1 on each map, with everyone playing everyone. Eg next Saturday ball_skylands, sat after ball_crystallized.

After each tournament we should have a good few people who have played a few games in a row on each map and give feedback.

Would teams be up for this? I am happy to organise and would organise so it doesn't clash with APL.

Sounds like a great idea to me! I would prefer ball_cliff or ball_desertnight to be tested rather than ball_skylands. I know it was just an example, but skylands is already on random rotation on ladder.

ball_crystallized needs more play time. Start with it.

Also, make sure it clashes with APL.

So is this a league or a tournament, or a league leading into a single-elimination tournament? Define the structure a bit more.

Ok bear with me, I don't do sports so don't know what sing/dbl elimination is. I can guess but will just explain what I meant in simple terms.

Each weekend have a separate tournament dedicated to just one map. Depending on how many teams sign up:

a) <6 teams = all teams play everyone, like in the group stage in football cups. So each team plays up to 4 games.

b) 6 or more teams = split into two or more groups and play like a), have two progress from each group to semi-finals and final

I would hope that it could be completed in 1-1hr30 as even if 8 teams sign up that is a max of 5 bo1 games.

This is just my idea, but my main point was just to organise groups of matches on the same map to get a lot of feedback on it. Open to any suggestions

Nik&Tek: Yeh any map is fine, skylands was just the first one that came to my head. I would hope that this one day tournament could be repeated for a lot of new maps.

So what you're discussing is a league, at least in option A. Option B would be a league followed by single elimination tourney.

Sounds like a good idea if enough people get interested but it'll be difficult to do during tbd season. I think drafted teams might make this a bit more intriguing and more likely to happen. Get maybe 4 captains to draft teams from whoever shows up. Matches *should* be a little more balanced from this.

Just commenting on the team draft. I can't recall a team draft tournament ever being successful.

from past experience with 1 day tournaments, we know they were failed to organize etc. besides PWNED!

captains games would be an easier method, especially if we did them with admins to facilitate speedy picking

It was the last game that was played I think. I had to leave so didn't see it play so couldn't really comment.
