Also I will discuss with other admins about blacklisting players from future tournaments on teams that don't show up during the season to discourage teams from registering who will not show up on sundays.

No why would I joke. Also why would it not start january? With APL finishing this weekend earliest we could start is next weekend, and then we would have to skip 2-3 weeks due to holidays it makes no sense but to start then.

Currently 9 teams registered, I would ideally like to have an even number of teams, but don't feel pressured into joining if your team can not show up. I will post format sometime this week. It will be a little different then SL up to now.

Also, putting a roster cap at 16 instead of 20.

What's the reasoning behind it only being 16 rather than 20? To encourage more teams to form rather than a few large ones? Just asking because this will definitely factor into my roster decisions.

Yeah mostly to discourage from having large teams. Or even teams that are incredibly stacked with talented players. There will be weekly substitutions that can occur still for players who may not be able to show up on a regular basis. We want teams with very active players.

I am not sure. I am looking at a very different format than past SL's. If we end up having 11 teams I will have to do some modifications to the schedule that I was thinking of. I would say 3-4 weeks of regular season and 2 weeks for playoffs.

Just to let all know. Initial Rosters must be submitted by the 6th. From the previous SL results the top two teams being ball and arr will conduct a snake draft (1221122..) and so on until there are no teams remaining to form two groups one of 5 and one of 6 (assuming no one backs out or no one joins before Sunday). There will be two teams from each group who will make playoffs. A full schedule for regular season will be drawn out once groups are decided, but know there will be an equal amount of home and away games for every team (or as closely equal as possible depending on the number of actual teams). A full set of rules will come either tomorrow or Saturday.

So a question is to be addressed with my miscalculation, if people would prefer 2 groups of 6 or 3 groups of 4 (in which case bbq would be the third team in the snake draft). I want to keep playoff teams at 4, so either 2 from each group of 6 would go, or 1 from each group and a wild card.

Here is my concern for having three groups is that one or even two teams back out during the season. It will have more of an impact on smaller groups giving certain groups unfair advantages to make playoffs. In a 6 man group, it would have a less impact. I will probably give the wild card spot via a goal differentials, but I have not decided on that yet since I did not think of having 3 groups.

Also, my scheduling as for now would be something like this:

2 groups of 6:
Lower ranked teams would play more home than away (3 vs 2) in group play (rankings defined by pick in draft...earliest picks being lowest seeded)
There will be a home and away vs one team in other group matched via time picked in draft (arr and ball face each other, then first two teams selected, and so on...)

3 groups of 4
Play home and home with each member of the group
not sure how I will mix intergroup matches here but I would again want every team to play one team from each other group (ball/arr/bbq...1st picks, so on) home and away gets tricky here.

I don't pretend to understand the intricacies of this setup but how come only 4 teams in playoffs? I feel like half of the teams signed up will have next to no motivation to play if there's no postseason potential for them.

I would be perfectly happy for doing a consolation playoffs for the other teams, but I think it is more important to make the regular season matter. If we send the top 8 then the regular season is meaningless imo. I may be moved to 6 but I think more than 50% is ridiculous to have in the playoffs.

I have to agree with Fart here. With only 4 teams in playoffs, you say it makes regular season more important (which is true for the top clans), but you make regular season (and therefore SL) useless for clans competing for lets say the 7th or 8th place (which used to be playoffs) imo.

Like I said I can run a consolation playoffs for 5th-12th...I dont see the point having a useless regular season though and if your mindset is hey lets see if we can get 8th then I think you are part of the competitive problem. SL is supposed to bring competition to the highest degree, if teams feel like 8th is the best they are going to get I recommend you not join...join because you want to enjoy the competition and really try to win, otherwise it can never truly be accomplished.

There's nothing wrong with setting realistic goals and getting to the playoffs with a certain team might be a bigger accomplisment than winning the league with another

Just don't see that much flaw with sending 8 to the playoffs tbh... You say it would make the regular season meaningless but I think it's the opposite, clans that get into 7th and 8th obviously won't have much of a chance to beat the top tier teams. It's more of a encouragement for those many teams who have no top 4 prospects to try their very best during the regular season, hence making it meaningful!
