Recently I've been trying my S3's internet as a hotspot connection for my laptop and test how well it does when playing Alti but something has been intriguing me ever since. I notice that when I'm playing in any server on Alti, my phone shows as if I'm sending and receiving data but I'm not sure what I'm sending or receiving.
What I'd like to know is how does a connection work when playing a game (Alti in this case) and if perhaps I can get extra charges for the data sent/received when playing. |

Every game varies how much data goes back and forth, but all games need two way communication. You are hearing what is happening on the server, and you are telling the server what you are trying to do. I recall there being a few threads on how much data transfer some servers were using.
Based on this wiki page, you are receiving about 3KB/s. I don't know how much you are sending to the server. In the end, what matters for how much it will cost you is based on your phone plan. Also note that some providers may say "Unlimited Data" and it isn't actually unlimited. That screenshot looks like Android. For me, Settings -> Data Usage shows me how much I have used over any period of time I ask for. Perhaps this can answer how much you are using. |

During testing of \H20/'s first server, it was determined that the amount of data sent/received was as follows:
data incoming to server: 39.98Kb/s (per user average was around 3.25Kb/s) data received by player: averaged was 12.5Kb/s (This differs from the wiki data, and we never figured out why) This does not include the amount of data downloaded during map loading, which can be as high as 3Mb depending on the map. The amount of data received by player varied by number of players currently in the server and complexity of map being played. The numbers represented here were for ball_darkwar 6v6. (Ball_core often spiked much higher numbers that I can only assume were due to a large number of "Fail to decompose" errors with that map, because it didn't occur with any other map) Don't know if this helps... but it would appear that a lengthy Alti session can be hazardous to your data plan...

I checked in my phone where Aki said and it seems quite the data that the games transfers while playing.
Interesting to know how much loading a map can weigh. Again, this is not something I'll appeal to but rather just for testing. Thanks a lot! |

You should root your phone and download an app called wifi tether.
