Just wanted to chime in to say that I agree that a switch to obj or tdm would be nice. I don't think either mode is quite as fun as TBD, but I DO think that it would shake things up a bit and add more tension to the question of who will win the season.

Also, I don't think the 10 vs 12 thing makes a huge difference, but letting ppl field a minimum of 5 is a huge mistake imo. Maybe I've got the wrong impression (Maimer can probably chime in with real info), but from what I saw all the 10 player teams were pretty good about fielding 5 guys for games, but the smaller teams consistently failed to have a full roster. Forcing teams to have at least ~7 or something seems more important to me than increasing the max cap.

EDIT: Also, I think it's pretty gay that a team can't choose to play with fewer people unless the other team consents. Playing 1-2 men down is a HUUUUGE disadvantage in Alt and I don't see any reason to punish them more than that. If they can win with fewer people, then clearly they were the better team and deserve the win. I don't see a downside to letting them play as long as the other team can field all 5 guys?

I agree with Evils post that each weeks maps should be decided beforehand. It will not only add the dimension that your team has to be good at all maps (at the same time preventing teams from consistently vetoing maps that they are bad at) but also it will cut down on the veto time which I found to be the most annoying. Nothing like waiting 10 minutes for a team to finally say "Okay, we decided to veto map123."

I agree with Dio in that teams should have to have at least 7-8 players on their roster (with the max at 10 or 12). There was definitely a problem with teams only having 5-6 registered players, which allowed for very little margin of error.

As far as TDM and OBJ goes, I am definitely very against including this in the tournament. The mode is too broken right now and on top of that there are no good maps. Once Lam/Karl get around to fixing the mode (as in make teams switch sides each round for starters) then it will be more appropriate. As far as I am concerned though all the maps are pretty terrible. I was hoping that some people were going to step up and get excited when it got released, but no one did anything.

As to the maps, I'd say push Grotto and Locomotion till weeks 3 and 4 to give people time to prepare once teams are established as they are new map to the tournament format.

I'll agree with Dio and say a minimum roster of 7 seems prudent.
As for max roster I'd lean towards 12.

To evilarsenal: So a forfeit loss doesn't give a win to the other team, huh? Levels out the 4v5 problem somewhat but brings up new problems, mainly with figuring out all the extra games.

It doesn't remove all the incentive to disqualify the other team in the 4v5 scenario I described. It's still in the other team's advantage to make you forfeit if A:They think you'll win the 4v5 because you're a good team or B:Your record puts you in the playoffs already but if you were disqualified there'd be an open slot they could potentially get into.

These incentives mean that a team that's done very well and/or already made it into the playoffs by win # is the most likely to get disqualified for one bad week. This does not sit well with me.

Sounds like due to popular demand were going back to 12 max, keep good suggestions rolling.

I'm not sure if forcing people to play every single map is the best move - it's good for a team to at least be able to know that if they are better on certain maps they'll have a better shot of playing there.

You could try putting up five maps a week with one veto per team if you chose, although it would be important to have either 3middle/2base bomb or vice versa.

I've had a half-finished Tron themed DM map sitting on my computer for a while. I'll try to finish it up in the next week or two.

So minimum - 7 players (no team has even close to that)

Eso, just because a team doesn't show up doesn't mean the other team that has 2 members only gets a forfeit win. They need to prove the forfeit win, but if its 5 and 4 on both sides, they can play, or they can decide to take the forfeit and play another team that has recieved a forfeit.

A forfeit win counts as one Round Won, instead of 2 so if they don't play it ther's loss eso

With different modes....

This is an idea

Preseason = Team Death Match

5v5, we'll have 3 maps (mayhem/cave/asteroids??)

You will play 9 Rounds on each side (One team starts on blue, and then after 9 rounds, go to red)

So lets say Snobsickles vs Treehuggers
First Half = Snob 5 - 4 Treehuggers
Second Half = Snob 1 - 8 Treehuggers

So treehuggers win the first round 12-6

If it's a tie, there will be overtime (2 rounds on each side)

good/bad? for preseason, so maybe one week in the regular season will be Team death match?

Ps. I'd also vote for new format; obj or tdm would be fun. Could turn obj into an incentive for everyone to show up, everyone spawns!

Default Uh...

Wait, did bc09 miss a game last season? The first weekend we fielded four because Prof. Charizard was with his girlfriend or something...thought we made all the other matches though.

In order to play are we going to have to have more than five pilots?

I like forced maps though I would suggest grotto and locomotion be pushed to week 2 at the earliest so people have more time to prepare for the new maps.

I did. The problem is that nobody but you gets any help from the community in terms of feedback or getting there maps uploaded there is no incentive for anyone to make maps. I've been struggling to get feedback for my maps for the last couple of months

and i vote yes for the forced maps

Why do people need extra weeks to prepare for maps? Isn't the next month enough?

you play 3 maps, get good at them for a week, play ur match, next week new maps

It adds more competition

Another variable for competition, a better chance for teams to upset better teams, ya know

I do believe I uploaded your DM map to my DM server the day you posted about it, and that now it is in rotation and being played regularly, and that when you join the server and ask for feedback people give it to you.

No need to be jealous of Maimer either-- most people had never even seen Locomotion before I put it up on my server, and it's been around for months.

I hope we have all learned a lesson about making nice maps and sending them to me and playing on New England servers.

As for forced maps in the tournament, just don't put hills and lost city on the same day or we'll go overtime.

Personally, I've stayed away from making one myself largely because no one plays maps that don't look pretty, and I'm not capable of doing that.

On that note, a long time ago you had a "contest" thing where you were going to create art for a map that someone else designs. For some crazy ass reason no one bothered to enter, but if that offer is still out there I'd love to try my hand at an obj or ball map.

So... seeing that there's still more than 2 weeks until the tourney, maybe switch the format to Planeball? It'd help make things more suspenseful since no one has any idea how good the teams will be at it, and also it'll get Lam lots of useful feedback on the new game mode since people will be playing it intensively.

Oh, and it's more fun. ^_^

why not death match too i find that format really fun, i like the fact that when you die, you can't spawn until next round. But I also agree adding more formats to the tournament would take fun to a whole new level.
