Sad. I really enjoy this game and the community. One of the friendliest communities I've been a part of.

I saw a post on Steam about a "toxic" community and I thought the guy was trippin'

I don't think this is the end of the community or game, we'll rebound and find a way to keep the game alive!

Would be awesome to see Alty supported and developed again. Having a group of loyal players like Alty does is invaluable - not many games have that.

Also, DISCOURCE!

Well that settles it I guess. We don't really have any choice but to set up a new forum, since that is too big of a problem. I guess I will go ahead and begin installing one on planeball.com unless anyone has a better idea. It has always been my plan to have accounts on planeball.com for fantasy and other reasons, that are linked to Altitude (specifically ladder) accounts anyway. Might as well use those accounts for a forum too.

Default Goodbye forums

I've been away for a little while, but a friend told me about the imminent forum shutdown and I wanted to pay my respects.

I enjoyed the countless hours spent in the game and in the community, and I hope the friendships and memories are as warm for others as they have been for me. Cheers to a fantastic experience.

I don't play many computer games these days, but if anybody would like to drop me a line I occasionally hop online on Steam: yellow_tea

Default Goodbye all

:'( ... It's been a long ride since 2009... you all have made this community so great! Just because the forum is dying doesn't mean our community and the game will die! Everyone link up and stay in touch, there's so many forms of communication out there nowadays that we can always use steam, a random website, and/or any form of social media. <3

I haven't found anything to convert old vBulletin 3.8, I tried phpbb and it didn't work. I would prefer not to use another PHP based forum software.

If there are legit concerns about the Steam forums we could launch a discourse forum and just leave these forums as read only.

Ugh, found the FAQ for this https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...0-IAGK-7663&l=

Maybe I'll play with discourse this weekend... everything would be from scratch, no automatic conversion of old forum data.

I have already been working on setting up a Discourse forum for the last couple days. It is already installed and I am finishing up getting the settings configured (https://forum.planeball.com/ - user registration disabled for now). Not sure what you have against PHP, but I used Discourse for other reasons.

Unless you are working on Altitude 2 I suggest not worrying about hosting forums and just let me do it, since I don't think you have the time to manage them anyway. This forum has been up for 8 years and still has the default vBulletin logo .

Really shouldn't be that much trouble to import to another forum software. Not like there is anything custom with these forums to worry about. That said, I think it may be better to start fresh anyway especially if these remain up read only. I think using Steam would have been a good option, but the $5 restriction is a major problem for a free game.

I bumped across one nice thing, and one troublesome thing about using Steam while trying to transfer the guides manually.

In the Guides area, you are able to upload all images to Steam, rather than having to link them. (A lot of the links here no longer work, and the images are lost.)

However, in the Discussions area, no images or videos are allowed. Only links. (Which makes our birthday threads, etc. much less enjoyable...)

There's this: https://invisionpower.com/services/migrate

If you want to move to IP Board. I can more or less recommend it, only been hacked once and no spamming problems.

Seems like your using an outdated version of vbulletin too, so maybe just update?

Why not just let someone from the community take on upgrading vBulletin to the most current version. It’s not like you are using some heavily customized theme or anything. Probably fairly straightforward. Back everything up, or set us up on a demo server and let someone who wants to take a crack at it.

There is also Vanilla Forums? https://vanillaforums.com/en/software/

But I would just stick with vBulletin to be honest. Adjust some settings and add a few plugins to help with security.

Had a great time reading old clan threads for the past...2 hours...

I hope these forums stick around for a couple more decades but if not, thank you for an amazing game and incredible community. This silly plane game means a lot to me.

Here's to Alti2ude!

Default Goodbye Everyone

Obviously I haven't been in the forum (or in the game) in quite some time, but it was sad to read that the forums are going to disappear.

Best wishes to all my Alti friends.

Default Whale of a time

This wonderful game was released 10 years ago today, as happenstance revealed to me tonight (randomly wiki’d the game and noticed release date).

So I log in and read some posts about alti forums being closed...

A great community spawned from this game over the past decade. Sad to see it go but also heartened it all happened

Thanks for all the work and happy to have spent too many hours playing with all of you- good times indeed.
DF
