That's probably not a valid judgement though because otherwise you wouldnt be mouthing off.

by the way, where do you play ball, Kuja? Do you use private servers? (I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I'm just curious. I know how frustrating it can be to play with people who are just starting out with the game.) You're talking some trash, but I've never seen you in a ball game, and I play way too much. Are you using a dif name?

Edit: I would be up for that, CCN. None of us have any servers that will work for a tournament though. Mine's just running off my desktop.
I play in whatever room I can get a 14/14 in when I log on, preferably one with hard walls, and I am on more than id care to admit.

Deal. We'll see if you can score a goal without randa self-pass. That should be interesting.

Let's move the conversation about the tourney to a new thread and keep this related to the ball guide?

Nobody's mentioned offensive passing yet, is this a Ball/Maimer trade secret or something? The easiest way to kill an enemy is to pass the ball to them. This works great against defense-oriented players with lots of bars, and/or players that are pointed away from you and have slow turning.

Interesting guide.

Sadly, I have no interest in ball while Miranda-passing is still around.

Lol mike doesn't even need self pass to score.

And kuja I'm starting to see your point... Acouple good randas using self pass on one team are realllllly hard to stop.

I'd like to throw out that in a competitive ball match with me + ACE vs Ball they successfully stopped my self pass through the game mostly. Admittedly they had 5 loopies with emp and acid but I found myself doing typical bomb running maneuvers instead of just flying across the field with my self pass.

In a game where there are nubs self pass is broken but in a game where there are skilled people it's not as broken.

Also can we stop all of this "MY TEAM'S THE BEST" stuff? The two teams in the finals got there because nobody knew how to play ball except a few of us - especially king and i who could self pass. I guarantee you that the team I played vs ball would've smoked both teams who were in the finals if we played now.

Everybody should read this guide. I can't describe how annoyed I get when some dumb-ass playing on my team, takes the ball and go fly in circles near the teams goal.

Lol, not clearly important way of playing but some ways i seldomly use. (not sure if u posted this
If going alone, u see a wall/shield in front of u and the enemies chasing behind - use wall/front - use shield to minimize the damage you get. To get the powerups, u dish the ball and get it and use and then chase after the ball again. Most likely enemy get the ball.

(excuse my bad grammar, i'm really sleepy right now so >.<)

My strategy is to not suck and score more than the other team. I heard that works too.

I thought people were smarter than using goaltending in games, after seeing people in ladder using explodets just camping the goal and effectively screwing their team over I think it is time to change the strategy section of this guide. Goaltending works only in 10v10 servers where the people suck anyway. People who use goaltending in ladder should either learn to play correctly or migrate to 10v10. /endrant

But the guide actually makes the point that goaltending is a horrible strategy. So I don't see the need for a change, but I do whole-heartedly agree with your rant.

Well a "sweeper" serves the same purpose. The thing is a good explodet is more helpful when pushing the other goal, and the couple of seconds of respawn time should usually be enough to get back to the goal if your team is being useful.

Only weaksauce teams need a seeker. Real teams win by more than 150 points.

Nice bump. Well, most of it holds true, but it was written when BALL was new and most players had no clue how to play it.

The guide needs a serious re-write. Fortunately, tactics haven't changed that much. It's loopy heavy, of course, because pre-patchety-patch, loopies ruled the roost.

I personally was a fan of your comments about the miranda self pass that no longer exists and the 5v5 section lol.

Why not make it simpler?

Code:
CAN OUR TEAM WIN? ---Yes-- Win ftw!!!
|
|No?
|
Lose, say the other team was lagging.

Default Bad flowchart

Nah, my flowchart is simple, but good. The hard part, believe it or not, is actually following it. This is what I usually see happen instead:

Code:
Am I flying in a circle? --Yes--> Fly in circles
|
|No
V
Is ball coming toward me? --Yes--> Avoid ball
|
|No
V
Are bullets coming toward me? --Yes--> Die
|
|No
V
Die

Updated "Formations" section to include:

"{Ball} Setup, or XX2's Setup"(2-2-1)

--(thanks, XX2).

*Caveat alert: this guide hasn't been changed in over a year; don't kill the messenger.

Great guide. I read this when I started, but obviously didnt take in a lot of it. Re-read yesterday and realized I'm guilty of several of the pet-hates. Thanks for the help!

That was from about 2 years ago I think. When ball was first introduced, selfpass was THE most powerful move in the game.
