Care to share any facts relating to this? If you look at the scientific community - all of the top scientists in the climatology field would agree that man-made global warming exists. It's not even a debate anymore.

PS: If you're trolling and I'm missing this my apologies.

Not trolling its my opinion, but something inside me isn't letting me make a srs post because its the water cooler. I'll try to build the strength to make such a post when I get home later.

Anyway, I believe that our industry is causing global climate change, but I think the real environmental problem is a lack of resources. The real problem is not specifically over-population (as stated by others above, the world population is leveling off and may even begin decreasing), the problem right now is over-consumption. This earth could probably support even more people than it already does, however we would all have a relatively low quality of life. At our current rate of consumption we will run out of resources in the (relatively) near future. I don't really know the facts, but I do know that changes will need to occur in the future if we want to live the lavish lifestyles we do now. I just think these will have to be major changes, and all this "green" hype is just an excuse to make people buy more stuff.

If you read this and think I'm an idiot, then I'm sorry, this is just what I believe and I don't really know the facts about the human race and our environment

As I said earlier capitalism is the solution. As resources become less plentiful the cost of them will increase ala supply and demand. As the price increases that resource will be used more and more conservatively.

Dear capitalists you have to change your minds... quality of life is not a matter of how much u can consume.
I recycled all i could the last 15 years and i will do it forever - will recycle fix it? we already know it wont! But i will do it anyway!
Are we so dumb we have to always run after urgent solutions? This ship is going down - its a fact.
For instance, my country has the fastest heating pace in Europe. We have no natural resources, just culture, landscape, sun, beach, and good people... turism/main income... in few decades we will have Africa´s climate mosquitos and diseases for we're so near it!
You keep forgeting to think outside your shelves. Forget the idea you solve things its stupid only you guys buy it! People colapsing everywhere outside your backyards!
Stop the "**** Kyoto" atitude. Enough of morons driving that awesome ship you guys have! Kick'em good.

Yes. In your opinion. Good.
Science has proved that man made global warming is not "bull****".
I wonder what I should trust. Kuja or known scientists. Wait, isn't Kuja the man who says he's a woman ?

Hey you know that Al Gore guy? How many science related degrees does he possess again?

edit: and my opinion is the position I arrived upon after doing my own research on the topic.

You know what's really polluting the environment?
Cruise Liners! QE2 to be exact.
  • 50 Feet per gallon of fuel.
  • 380 Tons of fuel used per day.
  • 0.00947 Miles per gallon

Oh I just need to clarify something. I do believe in man made global warming however I just don't believe its a significant factor in the Earth's heating up/cooling down. The Earth is in a natural warming period.

... for people to forget the "we will" and get to the i realy must! Without this atitude >> nowhere fast!

EDIT:
If people dont change their own minds governments wont change their bs'ing.
For instance: your saying, and your country; "the ****y electric cars!"
If it wasnt oil, would EUA spend that much crazy amount of wealth in IRAQUE? Theres always the weapons industry ofcourse but... cant a proper global conscience change that? ..... [I used to like Charlton Heston but now... please shoot him... (wait he dead?)]
Well, money sure is in the wrong hands for the wrong reasons to the wrong purposes, and thats what must be changed!

Drybone; electricity production polutes too

I've called in a "friend" to help us all deal with this thread. Tomorrow, a wormhole will open near Earth, and my friend's spaceship will emerge from the future. He will make a single transmission requesting one thing.....

.......
.....
..
.

a comfy chair.

He will then beam down to Earth,

look around,

sit down,

and bestow upon us the greatest of all his wisdom :

As I've already said - I'd really be interested in learning what types of *cough* "facts" you people are reading against man-made global warming or against helping the earth in general.

I'd like to remind you all that these do not constitute facts:
1) Your parents telling you it does not exist
2) Fox news telling you it does not exist
3) A friend telling you it does not exist

@Asparagus: That may have been true at one point in time - but it's definitely not that way anymore. Hell, people at MIT have found a way to print solar cells on pieces of paper. You can read about that one here (admittedly that is not in production - but there have been some serious advances in solar power).

@Kuja - Gore seems more than qualified to me to discuss global warming. Feel free to read about his qualifications here

However, ignore Gore for a second. If you're claiming that "Global warming is part of a natural cycle" - you need to:
1) Identify the mechanism behind this alleged natural cycle. Absent a forcing of some sort, there will be no change in global energy balance. The balance is changing, so natural or otherwise, we need to find this mysterious cause.

2) Come up with an explanation for why a 35% increase in the second most important greenhouse gas does not affect the global temperature. Theory predicts temperature will rise given an enhanced greenhouse effect, so how or why is it not happening?

The mainstream climate science community has provided a well-developed, internally consistent theory that accounts for the effects we are now observing. It provides explanations and makes predictions.

I see absolutely no model or theory whereby CO2 does not affect the temperature.

Mike, isn't there a hypocrisy here?

Your telling people not to repeat what they heard from Fox News, but all that you are saying is most likely something you read or heard from something or someone other than yourself.
You want people to stop speaking Fox News Platitudes, then you need to stop repeating stuff you learned in school and stuff you heard or read.

I almost guarantee, that you didn't do all that research by yourself.

Your parents, friends, or someone influenced the way you think.

So exclude that little comment, it is irrelevant.

Goodness People, You get sick of Fox News, we get sick of MSNBC!

Besides, no one cares about Fox News here.

That is irrelevant.

Ajuk,

You seem to have completely missed the Fox news point. Fox news often posts conspiracy stories based on little to no facts and goes off on completely random tangents. They often bring in "experts" who have no background in what they are talking about. In other words, they spread lies and fallacies (sometimes) - and people eat it up.

I am saying that people should START listening to real facts and people who are experts in the field. As in, go out and read the papers and do the research. It is not wrong to listen to a scientist who has researched a particular area. That is how science progresses.

People can influence how you think - but it is up to you to figure out the truths. If scientist a claims that there is a flying spaghetti monster controlling the world in which we live - it is up to you to figure out what is right or wrong with his claims. You should read his work and then read other papers that show both sides.

For instance: I'm an atheist but that doesn't mean I haven't read the bible or other religious books many times. In order to understand your side you need to understand the flaws in the opposing side - and the only way to do that is to read their material.

Al Gore doesn't care what gas is causing global warming as long as he's making money.

Although it was pretty smart of him to pick an invisible one to up the fear factor.
