Default New Game

I always like to take a short break from Altitude after each APL so the game stays fresh so I'm in the market for a new game. I'm still gonna play Alti, just won't be playing a ton every day.

The way I generally play games is that I get really into one or two and then play them religiously for years. So far, those games have been Halo, WoW, and Altitude.

So I figure I can ask a gaming community if they know of anything, cause I'm drawing blanks.

What I'm lookin for:
1) Not a huge time commitment. I can play quite a bit, but nothing like I could back when I had a full WoW raid schedule.
2) Not a FPS.
3) Online game with a community.
4) Not a RTS. I like the strategy, but I find the execution to be dull and tedious.

Generally, I'm looking for an online game that balances the pace of a FPS with the strategy of a RTS.

Games I've already tried and disliked:
-Eve Online
-Starcraft
-Call of Duty
-Fifa

So any suggestions out there?

I suggest Left 4 Dead 2. It's $5.00 on steam right now. I know you said your not looking for an FPS, but it's not your typical FPS. It has a big online community, plus you can kill zombies and it requires little to no brain functioning which is an added bonus. All you do is grab a weapon of your choice and shoot at stuff that runs at you and they explode into a giant glob of blood and chunks.

Or you can wait for the Guild Wars 2 beta to come out, and then eventually wait for Diablo 3 to come out.

Guild Wars 2 and D3 are along the lines of the games I really want to play, sadly they won't come out until i'm 50.

I tried out l4d2 and TF2, but really held no appeal.

hmm ok i think i found what your looking for then: http://battledexgame.com/welcome.php

Simple game to learn yet hard to master. Combines a lot of strategy elements, not really time consuming and is online.

If you are interested in CCGs, you can try Alteil. It's not one I play consistently, but go back to every now and again when I'm in the mood. Has a small persistent community from what I can tell. Free to start (you get a half-way decent starter deck of your choice for free) and technically free forever (you can get a random card's worth of in-game money per day, amongst other options; and the second currency, 'fight money' which is won through victories in the arenas, can be used on the FM-lotto which will help you flesh out a starter file), though I'd advise maybe sinking in about as much money as you'd expect to pay for any other game, to at least get things rolling on a deck.

Major downside is that your options for getting specific cards are very limited, limited in the sense that you can only trade in large amounts of 'point cards' (which I find are hard to come by) which are available through (more and more frequent) special events.

If nothing else, the free start-up option is worth a look, to see if the gameplay appeals to you.

yeah kinda, it's more of a turn based strategy type game.. You have a certain number of cards you can use throughout the game that grant you different abilities, but the game is sorta set up in a RTS type way, but the execution part is way faster. Wok3n plays this game all the time he is pretty pro at it and he likes it a lot. You should try it out and see what you think.

hrm, i'll have to check it out.

On a related note, Altitude is part of the Indie Air Pack today on the Steam Sale, http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6792/ for basically a dollar so we might see a big influx of new players. Has anyone played any other game in the pack?

We had that idea with nfo a couple months ago. We were thinking about building a huge explodet on the TL server. But we never did.

Tbh a Altitude minecraft server would be pretty sweet.

It's too bad minecraft servers are so expensive. To get one that you can actually install mods is $53 a month and to get one where you just simply have minecraft alpha without any mods it's still like $27 a month. >.<
