If you're one of those people that opened up this thread thinking it's about Avatar, go ahead and turn back now.
So here's what I'm thinking: when you're searching for a server to play altitude on, you could be able to search for a map that is currently being played. Hopefully there could be a feature that could limit the search to only servers with players, but that's not really necessary because we can all read by now and see if it says 0 players or 1+ players. Now I know most of the people browsing these forums only play on Ladder 1-4, ball dojo, or another popular server that I can't think of, but what if you're tired of playing in ball dojo, ladder's dead, and you have a hankering to play lostcity (very odd circumstances amirite?)? Well you grab up the ole search box and type in tbd_lostcity (or we could have drop down menus, idc). Find which server is playing that map in a mere 3.14159265 seconds and bang, you're playing lostcity. Comments, questions, concerns? P.S. This is like Pandora Radio because on Pandora, you type in a song/artist and you get a radio station. Well the altitude version is you type in a map and get a server to play on. |

I guess this could work, but why? Sort server list by map; done. Plus, if you're joining for a map, you're either joining mid-game (e.g. it's 4-4 on Lost City... oh joy) or you're joining just as the server is actually changing to a different map. This isn't a game where maps are played for 30 minutes -- *cough* middleground *cough* -- so I'm not sure this suggestion would really be all that useful.

What can be a reasonable alternative is to sort the server list by map like tgleaf suggested, but altitude could perhaps give an option to sort by multiple columns (SHIFT+click) to add a column to "sort by".
Eg: Click the map column to sort by map, then shift+click Ping column to sort by maps and ping. Of course nothing much can be done if you join a server just as the map changes, but I don't think working around this was the intention of of the thread-starter. Also, slightly offtopic: I have not found a way to "de-favourite" a server once it's added to favourites. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know, thx. |

Yea, it's not really needed, just thought it'd be nice sometimes. Didn't think about listing by maps tho, nevermind then.

Arrghh, thanks... I did before, and I can't believe I completely overlooked the "Untag server as favourite" but only read the "Tag server as bad".
/me punches himself. |
