The only thing I can think of is some other program is stealing the focus.
When running Altitude in windowed mode and you loose focus look at the menu bar (top grey bar that should say Altitude) to see what program is stealing focus. http://www.johnhendron.net/2009/04/1...s-in-mac-os-x/ |

Alright, so I finally took a screen recording: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19602014/Lock%20up.mov
The application never loses focus. The game locks up at 0:08. For the next 40 seconds, I'm pressing every key on the keyboard (including ESC) to try and unlock it. Normally, I just click a few times on the Altitude window and it releases its grip and I can play again. In this case, I did end up pressing something that unlocked it. I'll try to figure out what key(s) I pressed. Edit: nevermind. I pressed cmd+space and Spotlight opened, effectively switching the focus to a different application/process and then switching back with another cmd+space. I was able to replicate that, for what it's worth. I guess it might be an improvement to press cmd+space and then cmd+space again instead of having to click madly with the mouse (for us keyboard users).

My system is iMac mid-2007, OS X 10.8.0 (Mountain Lion). I play through Steam. My Java version is the stock Mountain Lion one, 1.6.0_33-b03-424 (64 bit). I always play in full screen and keyboard control only.
What happens is that in every 10-15 minutes (don't know exactly how often, or that the occurrences are evenly split in time or not) I lose control over the keyboard, none of the keys respond, not even escape or enter. In my case, a single click on the left mouse button always solves the problem and the keyboard starts working normally again. It probably doesn't matter, but I have a Logitech mouse, not an Apple one. (I haven't installed any drivers or other software for it though.) The keyboard is what came with the computer. I want to add that this happened on all versions of Lion (10.7) and all versions (only one so far) of Mountain Lion (10.8). Haven't had any issues on Snow Leopard (10.6). One more thing: I've done a clean install of Mountain Lion a few weeks ago, and still the problem persists. Are you referring to HyperSpaces? http://thecocoabots.com/hyperspaces/ I don't have that installed. Besides, the site says it's not compatible with Lion, so I guess not with Mountain Lion either. I don't know if it's another application stealing focus - I don't seem to have this kind of problem with other games/apps, only Altitude. Last edited by lakospeter91; 08-10-2012 at 08:52 AM. |

I created a zip file with the latest versions of libraries we use so you guys can try it out to see if it works.
Steam users: Altitude is installed to /Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/altitude |

There are reports that the latest java 6 update (1.6.0_35-b10-428) for OSX resolves the Altitude control problem.
If you are having Altitude control issues please run a software update on your system. Let us know if this resolves your control issue. If you still have control issues you can try the following: Install Java 7 from Oracle (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp) Check your java preference to make sure Java 7 is at the top http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/201...references.png |

I had Oracle's Java 7 update 7 installed, now updated Apple's Java 6 to the latest version, uninstalled the Oracle one, but no matter which one is installed the controls issue does not go away.

Happens to me too. I'm running 10.8.1 on a Macbook Pro 15" (2.4GHz i7 processor w/ 8GB RAM).
Some things I have constantly open which I didn't on my old laptop and could possibly be interfering:
Not sure whether anyone else has these installed? It might just be a 10.7/8 issue though. |

Been having this problem ever since I upgraded from SL to ML. Lock ups every few minutes, now every 30 seconds, I can click back to another program and back in and have control for a bit. Rinse and repeat.
UPDATE. I found out a fix for at least my macbook. In the system preferences, under energy saver, uncheck automatic graphics switching. The game runs smoothly as i'm used too, no lock ups etc. Last edited by ex~; 10-21-2012 at 03:55 PM. |

This is still happening for me every 20 seconds or so and I know a lot of other people who have it too. I have lion and I've installed java 7 (though I don't know how to put it in my java preferences) and there's no "automatic graphics switching" checkbox for me. Any other ideas on how to fix this? it's super annoying

pretty sure it has something to do with the mac and trying to conserve power by not using the maximum gfx, I never used Lion but I'm sure there's a place under energy saver or somewhere in your system prefs that allows you to maintain the max graphics as I remember something like that in SL.

I should try this on my Mac today, still running Lion though.

Covering multiple bases here...
apple no longer supports java themselves. The latest versions of java are 64 bit, not supported by some (all?) versions of chrome in OSX. The problem sounds suspiciously like an issue with SwingUtilities firing off an event, or a KeyListener not reporting immediately (both are threading issues, more or less). If this is the case, there's nothing you, the player, can do about it. It's an implementation issue of how java 6/7 plays with OSX L/ML. Bin |

Installed Mavericks a few days ago and Altitude works fine, no freezes, so it's safe to upgrade if you haven't already.

Unfortunately (karlam halp!) that same patch made using Mac shortcuts such as command a to select all, copy and paste, and even highlighting words in the ingame chat impossible. |

Use function in combo with the commands and they'll work.
