Rules

New Rules and/or Changes

- Bottom team gets map choice and side pick, top team gets server choice and first veto.
- Each team vetos one map from the pool. The bottom team will choose the first map to play from the remaining list of maps. Map pick goes to the loser after game 1; the losing team will choose the next map to play out of the list of non-vetoed maps.
- Server choice is AAB where A is the home team.
- Switching servers can occur at any point both team captains agree to switch servers.
- Players must play as the username they registered under. Any team that plays a player who is not using the name they registered with will forfeit that game. Example: If I sign up as Ark then I could go by <Ark>, <WintersArk>, or any other variation as long as I have, "Ark," somewhere in the name. Clam could go by NECROCLAMCER, JAMES CLAMERON, STRAWBERRY CLAM, etc. Doing something like this would mean {ball} forfeits the match.
* As a general rule of thumb I will allow one (1) separator that is one (1) character long. Any more than that will be up to admin discretion.
- Nicknames will be locked once preseason starts. If a player who has not played on a team joins after preseason their nickname will be locked at noon Eastern on the first week they join.
- Players may not play under a clan tag they are not currently in. This means you can not represent a clan's tag, past or present, that you are not currently a part of.
- Playing in preseason does not lock you into a team. If you played in preseason but feel you want to switch teams then you must notify your old team captain, one of the admins, and get your new team captain to add your name to their roster. Your nickname will still be locked, so make sure that your new captain puts the correct nick in the post. If you wish to change teams you must do this before noon Eastern of Week 1.
- Teams can sub twice per game. 6 players + 1 sub.

Preseason
- All rounds before Grand Finals will be BO1, Grand Finals will be BO3.
- Bottom team gets map choice and side pick, top team gets server choice and first veto.

Regular Season
- All rounds will be BO3.
- Bottom team gets map choice and side pick, top team gets server choice and first veto.

Playoffs
- All rounds before Grand Finals will be BO5, Grand Finals will be BO7.
- Top team picks either server and first veto or map choice and side pick. Bottom team will receive other option.
- Server: BO5 AABBA, BO7 AABBBAA
- If team B takes advantage of the server switch then team A gets side pick.
- Top 3* teams receive CP. One captain from each team please send me your team members Vapor IDs in a PM after the tournament ends and I'll get it taken care of.

* If there are 4 teams it will only be top 2 again.

Finally SL14, I missed out SL13, I wanted to participate, but when i came to apply, people told me that SL13 had already finished, so I was like really annoyed and puzzled, so this time i want to participate. First, what's a veto? Second, I am searching for any clan to join that will join SL, i am already in [-fu] so just as a pre-warning, if I join a clan participating in SL i won't leave [-fu]. Now, not to make it long, to all clan captains/recruiters, please private message me on the forums telling me which clan's captain/recruiter you are so i can hopefully find you and private message you as well either in altitude or on the forums to discuss stuff about me joining.

Basically, I just want to join a clan for SL before the deadline, January 10, 2017

If you sign up as, "Ballywood," then yes. If you sign up as Hollywood then no.

EDIT: Just to make things clear: if you do sign up as ballywood and use, "{ball}ywood," that will be fine because you can still easily tell who it is. If you start doing something like, "{ball}{in}{your}{goal}ywood" or something like that then that would be against the rules. I know people are still going to try to troll and skirt the rules so as a general rule of thumb I will allow one (1) separator that is one (1) character long. Ultimately the decision will be up to admin discretion, though. I'll add this into the main post when I update the post with the teams at some point later this month.

I think it's pretty obvious that {ball}ywood is Hollywood, and everyone in-game would be able to pick up on that

The rule was put in place to prevent players from changing their names to gain a competitive advantage. Whether or not people know that {ball}ywood is Hollywood or not is irrelevant.

Players have regularly changed their names to whatever the hell they feel like on league days. We've seen teams use barcodes, switch their names to another team's players, or even just change it to something completely random. The rule was put in place to stop that.

So for example if the rule wasn't in place and I decided I wanted to change my name to Jackson on a day of tournament matches that could, potentially, give me a competitive advantage. Quite frequently people don't check who is who, and even if they do check remembering it through the match (especially if multiple members on a team change their names) isn't always the easiest thing. The rule was made to make things more fair for everyone.

I see your point, I just think it's a trivial rule and could be more lenient while still being effective. After all, this rule (and the fiasco following its implementation) pretty much ruined APL and ostracized a good chunk of the competitive community.

The rule was made for a multitude of reasons. The main two reasons are because it give a competitive advantage to the team that is changing their names, and players like impersonating other players. We've seen it multiple times through multiple seasons that players change their name to either something completely random or to another teammate's name. Last SL we had {ball}ywood and {ball}ywood. play at the same time. The only way to figure out who was who was to see what kind of missile they were firing and attempt to possibly play around it. Looking for that period at the end proved to be ineffective and if you guessed incorrectly which whale was back it could prove fatal.

It wasn't this rule that caused problems last APL: it was players trying to skirt around it and then getting angry since they didn't understand the rule and didn't like that they couldn't change their name to whatever random thing they came up with that week anymore. There were ~8 players that threw a temper tantrum because they didn't like any new rules.
