sound quirk with intel mac as well

sound seems to work for a while, then there is a loud pop (at first I thought my speakers had broken), and then no sound afterward. When you exit altitude there is another loud pop, and then the sound works again.

If I remember right (only tried this the first time the bug happened) pressing the volume keys on the keyboard doesn't make a sound either, and the "increasing volume" graphic didn't come up on screen.
