Default Map Making Contest

Welcome one and all! Umm...anyway, hi. For those that don't know me, I have ABSOLOUTLEY NO SKILL when it comes to map making. But I do have a vivid imagination and went totally off yesterday at school. I had an awesome idea to draw a map on a piece of paper and have a competition to see who could create the best map based on my drawing. So I went to work and...low and behold, three hours later I had TBD_ufo.

Prizes!
300 Community points to the winner!
Do you need anything else?
Oh wait, I have a useless $20 bill that's been lying around. If you're a demo player, I can buy the game for you.

Conditions
Turrets can be placed where ever
Power-up spawn points can be placed where ever
Theme is a futuristic space map. Hence the ufo's
Map doesn't have to exactly follow my plan.
Don't start until I say to go.
Good Luck!

Not to be a downer, but how do you plan to award the 300CP or buy the game with the $20 bill?

Edit: the design looks like it has potential if made with good graphics and fewer obstacles.

Pieface, the 300CP comes from lam/Karl. If a map becomes official. The maker gets 300CP. If enough people show up, then the pottenial for an official map is all there.
As for the $20 game buy. I would either buy the game and eMail the winner the code, or use their eMail instead of mine to send the code to. Or I could just send them a PM, here on the forums if they don't have an eMail.
Let me know if there are any flaws in my plan. I will do my best to fix them!

The flaw in your plan is that you haven't talked to lam or karl about giving away community points. They're the ones who have the community points, you promising that you would give away 300 CP to the winner of this contest is like me promising to give away $300 of someone else's money for a contest that I'm holding, without asking that person first.

Second flaw in your plan is that official maps must have a good design so that gameplay is good on it. Have you asked lam or karl if your map design is good enough so that it might become official if it gets good art?

I have talked to lam and Karl about the CP. Good point about not talking to them about the design. I'll do that now.
PLEASE SIGN UP! I can do it with just 2, but 4-8 would be great.
Hahahaha, that rhymes...he he he.

Please guys, this thread isn't about your stuff. Your dog or whatever. It's about a map making contest. If you want your fence painted, make a thread for that. Everyone, please keep the posts in this thread relevant. That was really funny though.

There should be a thread where people like Sean and Expandedcelt (who are creative but too lazy to learn computer graphics and map editor skills) can submit concept designs for new maps and have them looked at by major mapmakers and players who understand precise balance (maimer, tyr, redshift, snowsickle, etc.) and criticized constructively. They would then provide new updated versions based on the criticism they've been given.

End result being a collection of map concepts. If one looks especially good, then someone with map editor/computer graphics skills could take that concept and make it into a real map with nice looking artwork and everything.

Altitude needs more decent maps, especially since the playerbase just got so much larger, and this could lead to some great maps in the future.

Just a thought.

Very nice idea. You are wrong about me being to lazy though I am not too lazy, I just don't have the means to make geoms.
EDIT: I am currently downloading GIMP now.

im saying that im done with the map >.< I missed that last rule, sorry

But, the map design has some flaws:

Size - The map needs to be fairly big for it to work. I'm currently using 2500x2500 for it, and it still seems a tad too small due to reason 2.

Player split out - You will never want to fly more than 1000px up in the map, because you can just fly directly over there, and use the small gaps in that wall thing to pass right into their base.

Bots: Bots sucks in this map, they keep thinking they can go through the gaps, wich IS possible, but they fail miserably. Making the gaps bigger would be a huge mistake, since it would just make your path to the enemies base much easier. (were talking not touching keyboard until the bomb should be dropped.)

It's okay Lord, I'll put you down as a contestant now. No worries about missing the last rule.

thanks

But, maybe you should edit your design a little. I can send you the map so you can check out the flaws yourself.
