*In TDM, 7:00 minutes seems fair for one game. Thats 21:00 minutes of game time.
*In 1DM, 3:00 minutes PER ROUND seems fair. Thats a MAX of 33:00 minutes of game time and MIN of 18:00 minutes!

Further information on exact scheduling will be released as soon as I bust out the brackets. But I can't do that yet so be patient.

This should be fun, thanks guys for doing this! About the maps: I don't feel qualified to express an opinion on the TDM maps, but you might reconsider your choices of the 1DM maps at least. Here are my thoughts:
  • I'd love to see the old version of clocktower in the tourney instead of the new (official) one. No offense to pig, but though the graphics on the new one are pretty the map as a whole is much more cramped and IMO doesn't play nearly as well as the old version.
  • I've found Core to be possibly the worst 1DM map out there. Middleground and Grotto I can live with, but the wide open spaces of core make the strategy part less fun, the spam more likely, and I've found core doesn't lend itself to a 1DM map whatsoever.
  • Maybe consider replacing Core with Mayhem? I've personally found mayhem to be one of the most fun maps to play in 1DM and the games are generally pretty good.

Not to bring up a long and heated argument, but could we consider bringing 110/95 scale to this tournament? After just playing a couple refreshing 1DM games with Hurri in both normal and the custom plane scale I've rediscovered how much more strategic the mode becomes with the extra bit of stuff you can see.

Kudos on the "no force forfeit by amount of players" rule, BTW. The nature of 1DM is that it's quite common for a superior team of three or four players to beat an inferior team of five players, so that was definitely a good choice to include.

I'm sure I'll think of stuff later on, but those are my thoughts for now.

Wow Pieface, thanks. (for not being rude and just trying to help)

I put clocktower simply because I do not know what the old one is called anymore. 1dm_clocktower_old?

Mayhem in, Core out, easy.

110/95 scale? I think we would have to see what people have to say about it.

You can download a bunch of the old (nonofficial) 1DM maps including the old clocktower here:
http://nimblygames.com/wiki/index.ph..._Match.29_Maps

The old clocktower map at the moment has a pretty annoying demolition charge in the dead center, but that shouldn't be hard to remove (I could do it if you want).

I understand the reasoning behind keeping official scale on TBD/Ball ladder servers and the like, but almost everyone I know who plays 1DM on a regular basis agrees that 110/95 scale is far superior in this game mode. Anyway, I look forward to hearing people's comments on the matter.

Lastly, what server(s) do you intend to run the tourney on?

The question I hate to hear.

The SkyLeague servers. I have yet to talk to CCN or TPain about it but I doubt they will ahve a problem with me using them for ONE DAY. Class is close with CCN so it will get done.

As of about 2 days ago our server host has kindly switched to Phong. He hosts about everything in Altitude, maybe shoot him an email after you get a few teams registered or now and ask him for help, I have no problem with you using Skyleague servers either but shoot me the finalized map list + maps to put in download folder and ill ask Phong if he's willing to put up the new config. Though I think you're first and best bet is to talk to Phong.

Good luck, im defo ging to try and join a DM clan now (If KLF isn't participating)

So am I to understand this will be on Saturdays? If fLb doesnt enter (not saying we wont but its doubtful since people, myself included, like to actually do things on Saturdays) I will be willing to play as a pickup member on another team, however I will not be nearly as dependable as I am for APL as like I said I actually do things with my Saturdays. Thats not to say il be a total flake though lol. Also are you sure their will be no conflict with the Sky League in terms of dates?

It is ONE day. And it won't be very long. I am sure you could sacrifice 2-3 hours for 1/52 saturdays this year.

Timer is really necessary I think. 7:00 in TDM and 3:00 per round in 1DM seems really good. If you guys really want to have it changed, please, let me know. I have completely changed my attitude, I actually listen to criticism now!

AND UFO, I was joking around with L*. Everyone just took it the wrong god damn way.

Is your clan really just all numbers?

Speaking of numbers, can we get some discussion going on the use of 110/95 scale for the tourney? I have yet to hear from anyone who regularly plays 1DM and thinks the official scale is better for this game mode.

I really don't understand what that means. Is this making the MAP bigger or the PLANES smaller? Plane's need to stay the same size!

100/95? Does that mean the map is 100 and planes are 95? Or what?

IMO- Planes should be 100 and map should be 110, if anything!

110/95 would mean that the map scale would be set to 110 and the plane size would be set to 95. There's been a lot of discussion on this topic for TBD games, but I find 1DM to be an extremely different game mode than TBD and for this reason it might be worth revisiting.

What makes the 1DM mode so great is that almost every round's result is directly based off of individual player skill, careful tactics, and positional strategy. Raising the map scale slightly so that more area is visible removes much of the deaths related to offscreen spam, and allows planes to better adapt to their surroundings while at the same time getting a general sense for where other people are located.

TBH, the plane scale change isn't very significant. The camera scale is the main point to discuss here, I've just found from experience that slightly reducing the plane scale as well leads to more interesting games.

@pie

well that sounds great. But remember, increasing map by 10 and decresing plane by 5 is hte same as decresing plane by 15. imagine what a 100/84 would look like lol

Honestly, I'm beginning to doubt that you've played much 1DM. Until recently when the servers were taken down almost all competitive games took place on New England Deathmatch, where that was the default scale. Everyone I played with regularly for the several months that I played 1DM exclusively agreed that the NE scale seemed better for the game mode (Note that we extensively tested playing at both official 100/100 scale and at 110/95).

If you have an argument against the size change besides that the numbers look strange feel free to voice your opinions.

A clan can use as many people as they want. There is no ROSTER LIMIT. But only 5 can play at a time.

If you're worried about the planes looking too small on your screen, it's actually not bad at all. I and many other people have played dm on 110/95 on the New England DM servers and your plane looks fine, and it feels a lot better.

As a clarification, 110/95 isn't the same as 100/85 because you get to see more of the map.

A concern with doing 110/95 is that some players with certain types of computers will have some graphical problems, though.

1DM is my favorite game mode actually. I just never payed attention to game scales.

I would like to recommend that you do instate a roster limit. If competitive tdm/1dm does last beyond your tournament (and I would think you want it to), a lot of players might start gravitating toward the stand-out good clans. This is why roster limits were instated for APL, so that the good talent gets distributed amongst several good clans rather than have one clan monopolizing it all.

Most people never notice any difference. A couple people out of the hundreds who have played on these servers have noticed slight distortions with movement (I've heard Karl can't stand it, but maybe he has better vision than most).

There's some discussion on it here in the third page of the ladder thread:

http://altitudegame.com/forums/showt...?t=2469&page=3

A few people mentioned having problems, but I would venture to say that these people likely won't be playing in a tdm tournament, as historically, tdm was most often played in New England servers, where the scale was 110/95.

Yea we are doing 110/95 for it. I was playing it before, and I like it.

Team Name: APE
Tag: ~()
Captains: dirtydamape, Apetitude, ApeleSauce
Team Members: Aperham Lincoln, Wraith, Mr. Moooo, krawz, leopluradon, AmokTime, Butt3rF!Y, NuFlash, MintzMache, Cool Wind, Fishibaron, R-Ap-E

P.S. I think it would be best to have the first matches on May 1 and then do the semi-finals and finals the week after. It just seems that it would make it easier on everyone.

Edit: new member to roster

yO yO yO yOrk
we'd like to sign up plz, but -
as agreed with york, we can drop ourselves out before the tourney actually starts, if we see that there is no compliance of our members for it.

Team Name: B0T cuz lets face it, bots r the best!!!

Team Members:

also, we support pieface's ideas:
- old clock tower is a good idea,
- i support those scales: camerascale=110 and planescale=90 (and not 95)
but any reasonable scale u choose is fine by us!

good luck and have fun!
