I like it, Nikon. Let's get it hosted so we can play it with more than just bots.

May I suggest you to put here a screenshot of the map (like in the other threads) so that we can see it without downloading it?

Btw, my first impressions are: 1) too "empty" 2) spawns too close

May I present the screenshot, if you could just put it up in the original post.

I agree with the spawns being too close, but.. this should actually be tested because it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Let's put it up on a server and play a few rounds on it! Contact me when you're online brah

if it's possible, i'd say raise the ceiling and move the spawns up some more a la the diagonal spawn thingies in mayhem

i foresee the ball getting tossed into the circular item thingies, followed by cluster**** of epic proportions lol.

might be cool if there were other ways out of those circle thingies, like passageways leading towards the goals and to the middle of the map. idk. i just want to throw a ball in there and watch the ensuing chaos.

Seems like a good map, but i think there needs to be more of a separation between the red and blue spawn points, like this you would be able to kill enemy planes as soon as you spawn.
And i also agree with luke. Maybe one more small barrier on the bottom center?
But id love to make some crazy shots by having the ball roll off of those curvey things on the top and bottom

We played this map on Nikon's server. It's a good map... nice (originally designed) background, room to maneuver and pass, good curved surfaces for trick shots/passes.

The ball spawns seem a bit too close to the plane spawns. Sometimes (esp. randas, but all planes) you have to turn around to get to your own ball after a goal is scored and the ball spawns.

This map can now be played on arr servers 1-3. It is not in rotation though so it can only be accessed by voting a map change to it.

I am still concerned with the holes on the bottom left and bottom right corners. Not sure if this might show up in actual play, but it seems to me like the ball could get stuck there easily resulting in up to a minute of dogpiling in there while both teams try to get it out. Maybe making it shallower would be better.

And the player spawns definitely need to be farther apart. I recall Maimer saying that Lam had ran some metrics on ball maps and determined that there is an optimal spawn distance in ball maps (in terms of randomness of match result and game time length). Try to move the spawns apart so they're closer to the spawn distances on some of the better ball maps.

The map just somehow doesn't feel good. I think it concentrates too much on the shots that you can make by shooting the ball to the curvy things, but that makes the map otherwise feel quite empty and boring. Tbh I don't know what exactly should be changed.

I tried it today and loved it, at least visually. The game was too short to form an opinion but it definitely has potential.

dam nikon didnt realize u had this map out for awhile.

anyway just wanting to make my POV official, i think the map is great and its good that it has so many different ways to do trick shots or passes. the quick playstyle is really fun and hope it becomes official soon

Nice design, Nikon. The map plays well for all planes, which is not always the case with ball maps. It's very small, but that doesn't seem to be a bad thing. It just means that it's fast-paced. I like all of the angles, shortcuts, and hiding places.

We played it several times last night and it was always 6-5. A good sign for a new map...

Here are the current thoughts on the map

1) Change the team colors. They blend too much with the background.

2) Make the map wider (and potentially a little higher). It feels way too cramped as it is.

3) Space everything out a bit more.

4) Graphics and curves are amazing. I can't wait to see the next version.

Overall people seemed to enjoy the map but felt it was too bomber and explodet oriented because of how cramped it felt. Let me know when you update it

Going back to the 2nd version. Reason: after more testing I and other liked the old one more.

So if you are hosting this map I would love for you to continue, so re-download V2 and keep on hostin, Thanks!

I just played the new version, and I didnt care for it much. It loses the unique feel it had when it was small. The ball moved from top to bottom with ease in the smaller version, now it just feels like the ball drops to the bottom and becomes a spamfest. Easy to get kills because I was just chucking rockets at the ground in the middle... For now I think nikon is going back to the small version, we'll give it some more testing and see what people think. It's possible that he may have just taken it too far and needs to find an intermediate.

Blue doesnt work as a new color, even purple was better. You may need to just pick colors that don't match the map.

The reason I voted no on this map turning official is cause every time I play this map I still feel the game lacks flow. As far as Nikon's maps go I would prefer to see ball_pixelized become official, although some people complain about the colors, I really like that map.

I'm not sure why this is, maybe it's cause the map is too open, or maybe because near the goals it is too closed. It feels like a ping pong game, one team takes the ball they go to that crowded zone, and either dry from spam on the open area or die when they get to those obstacles near the goal. Then the other team does the same until one scores.

I think a good game must have times when one team is dominating and pushing, other times the other team does it. Also there should be some battling for the ball on the middle of the map.

I think it should be tested. I know there's the test_custom_map function, but I've never seen it get passed. Folks would rather play for real if there's 12. Perhaps it can be added it to custom_random rotation for just a week or two, then assess/decide whether to make it official.

It has been tested in ladder twice, as far as I know. But yes it needs to be tested more.

In regards to the OP, I haven't really played the map enough to get any kind of feel for it. I can't tell if I like it or not, basically. So, more ladder test matches!
