Default ball_sideshow

New Version Added! (Sep 12, 2010)

I have updated the ball_sideshow map with some pretty big changes. The background remains the same as the old version for now, but the obstacle layout has been overhauled and textured, and the graphics enhanced. I basically had to start over from scratch, in order to make it all editable in GIMP, instead of just the Altitude editor. Now that it's been converted, I can make changes to it a lot easier. I do plan on updating it more in the future.

Feedback is welcome! Screenshots and the link to the map download have been updated.

Edit: You can play this map on my 24/7 hosted ball servers, Ball Dojo #1 (US) and Ball Dojo #2 (US). It is not in the map rotation, but can be voted for with /vote changemap ball_sideshow

As you know, I like the map and I think it plays well (even at 6v6). But the background does bother some people. I ended up turning parallax off so that it looked like the attachment on the left. Maybe a less garish background? Although it is better now that the background doesn't move. =)

I can definitely see why it would bother some people. I'm thinking I may take that background or something similar, and try to fade/wash it out a little bit so it's not as vivid and distracting. I'll see if that works, anyway.

Thx for feedback.

Why not? I'm just doing it the way it seems to work best. Does it cause some problem for you?

It looks lie it's a bit easy to defend, am I incorrect?

I might host this on the arr servers for testing.

So far this hasn't seemed to be the case on the Ball Dojo, but we're still testing Some 6v6 matches have lasted 5 minutes, some closer to 10-12.

I added version 003 to the original post. I spent yesterday learning how to use the basic functions of the GIMP image editor and created a background which is more pleasing to the eye. New screenshots also.

I just played the map and it is really good. I hope it can get onto the first step, the arr servers and then get into the official maps. I really like it.

Thanks for the compliment, wolf. Just out of curiosity, which version did you play?

When you are creating a new post, go down the page a little and find the Manage Attachments button. Attach a screenshot that way. My servers are professionally hosted by www.jestservers.com. You can find additional details there!

Added this map to the =AIR= EU server, you can play it by calling a changeMap vote.

Since this map is on the ball ladder testing, I think it should get some feedback.

Since September that this map is on =AIR= EU Server available by voting, and during this period, the map was played with some frequency. My opinion is that this map is good, and I really, really, love the graphics. This is one of the non-official maps that I like more.

The feedback I got on the server was also mostly positive, and the negative had to do with people who didn't like the graphics.

Looks like an impossible climb from the bottom to the goal, resulting in long games. Did that happen during the test games?

Not really, because there's some bounces and direct passes to the goal area. I forgot to say that the goal area is a little too closed, but still those direct angles into it make it playable. It wouldn't hurt if the access to the goal was easier.
