Really? Go into the game and change one of bomber's red perks to a perk called, oh well what do you know, DUMB BOMBS. Maybe thats why they are called that, but it is just a theory.

So they really are called "bombs" not dumb bombs. Most of the pro players refer to bombs as dumb bombs because generally people who use them lack skill and have no idea how to play. They fly around and drop their bombs stupidly rather than considering the optimal way to use them.

There are a few players here and there that I've seen use dumb bombs effectively - but it's quite rare.

Ultimately, because so many people hate them due to the fact most players simply fly along the top of the map pressing d and dying and end up with like a 1-40 ratio - they were given the name dumb bombs.

Edit: Well even though this is why I call them dumb bombs the real reason is posted below

I was going with the assumption that the name was due to the fact that the bombs don't home in and aim themselves, making them the opposite of the 'smart bombs' from previous versions.

Yeah "dumb bomb" is a military term for an unguided munition that is dropped from an aircraft.
