Um, the outline looks great. You really intend to do all of that? It seems like a ton of work, but the Wiki could really use some fleshing out and if it's written well, we could update the Wiki with your contributions.
Even if you just plan to use it for your own purposes, please consider posting it to the Beta Guides subforum. Edit: much of what you've outlined already exists in some form or another. Be sure to comb through the existing guides so you don't redo all of that work. You guide to everything could include links to existing guides and/or Wiki pages, as needed. For example, the plane-specific guides (e.g. Guide to Bomber) include perk discussions that are fairly complete and written by people who mained those planes for a long time to get that knowledge. Also, I would skip any map-specific discussions in your guide, unless you think there's a good reason to do so. Anyone versed in general Altitude knowledge -- that is, someone who has spent time reading through the existing guides -- and who has played the game for any significant amount of time -- say 50 hours -- will already have an idea about how the maps work. Beyond that, you'd be writing more of an expert guide (e.g. "On Darkwar, if you weave in and out of the horizontal obstacles, you can distract trailing planes and escape enemy fire") which wouldn't apply to someone just learning to fly on a bouncy server. I think this is a great idea Flexio!

Is that a joke or something
Taking tgleaf's advice I think I will take some parts like planes and perks but I think direct information on other things like gameplay, menus, and especially clans would be very useful to a newer player. I remember not even knowing about the forums until I had clocked 80 hours |

I would like to officially sponsor this project.
Here's what I'm thinking: Start a google docs or some other form of collaborative web based document. Anyone who contributes meaningfully will be awarded CP based on how much they contribute. |

I declare that if anyone just does this for community points, that's silly. GJ flexio, I truly hope your reputation might come back from some people for this! |

This coming from the person who wants community points just for playing the game...

I've never said that. I asked to explain why we don't have that, not that I want that. I wanted to hear everyone's opinions.

Posting it in the Suggestions Forum made it seem like a suggestion.

Are people OK with using the wiki for this? I'd be happy to create a separate page for the project and create new wiki accounts for anyone who needs them. The nice thing about doing it that way is that we could easily copy and paste well-written sections to different locations in the main database and people's changes would also be accessible to Karl so he could get a quick idea of how much people contributed.

Dude, this is a very good idea. I would love to help out, AND I would love to add to the guide, *making maps* The map editor is VERY intimidating for new comers and VERY hard to figure out unless you have help.
I have quite a bit of map making experience with the editor and all, and I have quite a bit of graphic design experience. I would love to help out on this part of the guide if you are intending on adding it. Good luck on this, and just ask if you want my help. |

How about "The layman's guide to Altitude"

Before this gets rolling I'd like to have something made clear to me: So it will probably be done on the wiki since that seems easiest;
but am I in charge of (like Karl said) collecting everyone's contributions and putting them together? Or will it just be a free for all on the wiki? |

Your call. I think it would be best to have at least one page that anyone can edit to showcase their ideas, but if you'd like to compile them separately in your own format nothing's preventing that as well.
I'll probably go through completed sections and copy them to the appropriate part of the wiki when they are done to flesh it out a bit more. |

I like "The Hitchhiker's guide to Altitude" personally . Basically the same thing but more to the original. If you guys are doing this on the wiki, then can pie make an account or whatever for me, all I know how to do is press f, d, and s <3.

Yeah that sounds great. I think I'll compile my ideas separately and then maybe put it on the wiki page with everyone else?... But anyway the page for everybody sounds cool.

Flexio, the map guide already doesn't help at all, Or at least that's my case.
I think there could be WAY more maps and map making people if you had me make this part and you added it. |

Well it helps with the basics like making geoms and such but I understand what you mean.

Alright, let's get this thing started! CLICK HERE to see more information about how the process will work on the Wiki. If you follow the link you'll see I copied Flexio's outline into the community-editable wiki page. It can of course be changed as you see fit. If people can agree on a new title for the page I'll go ahead and change it as well. Everyone should feel free to write new content and edit what is already there.
From now on anyone who would like to obtain a wiki account to edit should post here or PM someone who already has an account. If you have any questions about wiki editing in general also feel free to post here and I'll try to help out. Last edited by Pieface; 12-14-2010 at 12:35 AM. |

Pie, we should add a section about Mumble and another about Screen Capture (Video Recording, Screenshots, and ImageShack). These could go under a heading called "Add-Ons."
Edit: I went ahead and adding these sections. I am currently working on the Clan sections and on the Add-Ons sections. Comments/changes are welcome. Last edited by tgleaf; 12-14-2010 at 12:54 AM. |

I want to add, this idea has alot of great potential - guides could be constructed with the aide of other players easily.

Done and done. I think it would be neat if everyone made a list of the things they've contributed so far. Right now all I've done is post the devs and the devs helpers.
