Next Event/League

With SL season ending, my schedule freeing up a bit and my thoughts that apl may not be best to hold with very few good teams/players left actively in the community, I want to poll the community about possible upcoming events.

Types of Events:

Team Draft Ball Season/Torunament: We would have everyone register and apply for captains. It could be a combination of a round robin or divisional regular season with some sort of post season or just a tournament itself.

Any Player could register to play and captains would be picked based on:
1) Who I would think would show up to a draft so that it could be done in a fairly quickly manner (1 hr max). I would set up a spread sheet and let captains know a few days ahead of the scheduled draft (likely sunday during SL time) so they could have a suggested draft in order.
2) Players that are active
3) Players that are experienced in leading a team
4) Other qualities I feel necessary for holding this event effectively.

Team sizes would be dependent on how many register.

Tournament Olympiad: This would be a season of regular weekly events that could consists of different game modes including but not limited to (ball, tbd, 1dm, coop). Teams would be defined beforehand consisting of either current teams or newly made teams for the specific tournament. Each event would award points based on the results and top two total points would have a series of events in a championship game.

Standard APL: enough said about this

Another SL: again enough said

Take a break and wait for next SL: take like a 2 month break then have another SL.

I'd be up for anything new like draft mode. Nice to mix things up a little every once in a while. Though I do have my doubts as to whether it would succeed...

I think the APL / SL rotation is still sustainable as long as at least 4 teams register for any given tournament. Shorter, one or two weekend long events could be arranged between two, like it happened with Pwned! or Bronza Palooza before that.

We use to have other tournaments between SL and APL, so I think this would be a good thing to keep things fresh again, tournaments like WABL were always fun to play in.

In regards to your thread, I would love to have a draft ball tournament. I think the past draft we did with the tbd version went well, so a ball version would always be nice. The key is to keep people playing, the off season really kills a lot of teams from staying active in the game.

What would really drive the community I think would be for these events not to be constant but rotated. Like have a draft now, and then next SL APL rotation have a Olympiad or whatever else there may be.

Though the most concerning cause with the current community is that a lot of people just aren't playing competitive, a lot are no longer in teams, which is the cause of all this annoyance within the top teams.

As much as I'd love to play once more with my team in APL, I think that right now the better choice to lift the community a bit up would be a draft tournament/league.

Just look back last year when ball'n hosted a Pre-APL Draft tournament which went down pretty good and gathered a lot of players. If so happened with TBD, it would most likely happen in a bigger manner with Ball.

I agree with what is being said. My main concern about APL is that last season there were 5 teams (1 did not show, 1 was bad, 1 was inconsistent and 2 were good). I believe from talking with a few people (including tbders) that it would be hard to keep it alive and as peter said unless we can get 4 teams it does not make sense. A draft tbd league may work (assuming we can get enough people) because the teams would maybe be more balanced than having the typical teams slaughter new/helping apl stay alive teams.

If I did a ball draft or another suggestion and it worked well, I would definitely want to add to the rotation of existing tourneys.

well i dont know if you have created a tbd clan before DN or any other clan but as a clan founder i can tell you that i rather play a tbd league with my clan members because i think they are the coolest dudes in altitude obv except for a few others that doesnt play in any tbd league.

I would hate to see APL die completely. I'd much rather have a short 4 team APL than no APL. I'd vote for 4 team APL round robin. Either normal APL or with draft. Most likely need a draft to get 4 competitive teams.

There is nothing wrong with a small tournament in between the major leagues, in fact I think it's ideal.

However doing a widespread draft tournament is likely to fail due to the simple fact that if people don't like their teammates and enjoy playing with them they will stop showing up. I've ran a draft tournament in the past and have personally seen this occur. If a draft tournament was to be held I believe you would see the best results by having it as a one day event.

I don't think that APL should be dropped but I do think that if should be seriously shortened due to lack of teams. For example if there are 4 teams the regular season could be 3 weeks then one week of playoffs between to 2 teams which leads to a one month TBD tournament.

I do like the idea of a Tournament Olympiad with clans which could run multiple weeks. It's been attempted before but I think it was just a one day event.

What I would like to try and see aswell is whether there would be any interest in a USA vs World BO7 ball match. In the past this both succeeded and failed but if we do it right I think it would work out. This match could be played the Sunday after this SL or the Sunday after the next league. For example we could take the ball ladder top6 of both USA and the rest of the world at a certain date and check if they all want to play in this match. Then pick 2 captains out of those 12 and have them pick 4 wildcards (so there would be 2 teams of 10 players) to make sure at least 6 show up and a good ball setup can be played.

Good idea in theory, though the top 6 USA has 3 randas. The euro team on the other hand looks fabulous :P you might need a better way of picking than by ladder ranking

I am fairly confident about running a ball draft tourny after the playoffs can be done. I will post about APL, but I am hugely concerned that there will be no interest or not enough at least. If we succeed with that, I would ideally like to have an event separating APL/SL. So maybe SL>draft>APL>olympiad>repeat?

I don't mind doing something with ladder (although I personally like other ideas better), but I basically would make top 6 on each team plus the top player for each side to be able to pick like 4 players additional, because as fart said having three randas is not going to make for good games. This ends up turning into a mini draft anyways this way though.

Yes that's what I meant with the 4 wildcards, so if the USA top6 are lights then the top player/captain can pick 4 heavies to complete the team. I also like the ball draft idea better but this would just be 1 match on a probably otherwise 'not used Sunday' after SL.

First off I never said APL would not be played, I just indicated that from my understanding of the "community" which everyone is a part of is lacking in the interest. I will post and if we can get 4 teams, I would be happy to run it. But it just makes no sense for me to go out of the way to organize games between 2 or 3 teams in my opinion. This is true for ball as well. If I don't get enough interest I won't host it. Again community needs>individual wants/desires. If you have a problem with that feel free to take the reigns.

Already there is an ongoing ball league so we could opt for APL . so That we dont leave tbd leagues die...maybe can hav the nxt ball league in march!
