Default HOCKEY general

I C E I C E B A B Y seriously has no one clicked on this yet

SELF EXPLANATORY GENERAL HOCKEY DISCUSSION THREAD TITLE RENDERS DESCRIPTION UNNECESSARY

Actual Things Actually Happening:

1. LAST CHANCE FOR BRACKET ENTRIES at http://bracketchallenge.nhl.com/?int.../league/136388
SEARCH FOR "ALTI" IF YOU CAN'T FIND IT, THERE'S AN EXPLO IN THE THUMBNAIL
MULTIPLE ENTRIES WELCOME

2. Zero Canadian teams are in the playoffs, somehow. This is especially sad and weird, but so are Canadians, so no harm no foul? Something like that anyway

3. So...Vegas expansion?

4. Someone actually picked the phillies to go to round 2

C̶u̶r̶r̶e̶n̶t̶ Very outdated and totally irrelevant points of interest:

1. Playoffs start tomorrow. Hands up if you think the Rangers make the finals, but some part of Lundqvist's body doesn't.
If anyone's interested, there are a couple of Altitude player leagues over on NHL.com. One of them (the cool one with the loopy logo) is Funnyhell and me, and the other is gumby and some weirdos who made their league private. Feel free to join ours, even if you don't follow NHL and just want to make a goofball bracket for fun.
www.nhl.com/bracket/
Search "alti"

2. Not that anyone cares - in fact, when it comes to my actual life I think most people actively try to care less than normal - but my personal interest in hockey is that I used to play. It was the first sport I ever got semi-serious about. To me there's just something about lacing up your skates, slotting your hands into those Bauer gloves, and flailing around on a giant rectangle of ice trying to move a piece of rubber around with a stick. Just super fun to me. It's been quite a few years since playing in a real game, none of my gear fits if it hasn't disintegrated in my parents' basement already, but I still love the sport. It's fast, physical, and requires an incredible degree of hand-eye coordination. It also offers near-continuous play, but at a faster pace than football (soccer) and less predictably than basketball. Anyways that's my story, what's yours?

3. Again, quiet opinion - I feel like hockey is one of the irl sports most similar to Altitude Ball. The passing, the small goals, the fact you can go behind the goal, checking/killing to cause dump-ins or changes of possession, player movement - idk. Seems similar to me but quite possibly I'm just some moron who likes hockey.
So a lot of the time I assume that because of these perceived similarities, people who love ball would also be into hockey. But what is reality really but a perversion of logical expectations so w/e

Ok so happy discussion ppl, or maybe unhappy discussion followed by angry internet fistfights. Talkin about hockey, after all.

*why is this even here?

My parents had me join the Jersey Devils junior club ages ago but only for a short while. I was really into it until we eventually moved to CR in '04. Haven't really had an eager interest into catching up since it's been so long. The fast pacing and adrenaline is too exciting to describe, though I'm not very knowledgeable of it since I never made it past the beginners program.

Also, I ripped my ****ing life off learning how to skate.

I don't know anything about ice hockey except thou shalt not take the name Gretzky in vein (thank you SModcast).

I'd love to give it a go. Seems to fit all the things I would enjoy in a sport; it's just far less common in England

As far as predictions go, my first step would be to look up what the team acronyms stand for and go from there.

I have no idea what this means, but (maybe) sorry for your loss? Are your parents not expecting any grandchildren?

I am convinced this is a very carefully constructed masterpiece of poetic form. Just look at how the breadth of each line quantifies and follows the deconstructive nature of the narrator's pseudo-dialogue as he (she? it?) vacillates between oppositional external and internal pressures to conform to a single belief system, those proffered being mutually exclusive, and the eventual arrival to a state of unresolved modernist expression that perfectly counters the expected denouement while surpassing common textual limitations of the so-called literati heretofore.

Do you not have skating in england? Surely it's cold and miserable enough there for ponds to freeze over. If it's the technology that's missing, a kitchen knife with a drop point of over 10 degrees superglued to your old boots will do in a pinch.

YESTERDAY'S ACTION
-chi vs min remains worst series in the entire postseason, probably
-the ducks finally lose, quack quack

Is anyone else surprised that the caps are still in it

Click the "my bracket" tab near the top.
Also heres a hint for winning in this challenge... Pick the Blackhawks everytime.

I mean I obviously did three to have a better chance at the nhl.com prizes. Only small changes between them. 1 is fine for this though.
