Default Voice Chat

if anything needs to be added its voice chat during matches. im wondering why this hasn't been added to the game yet. it would make strategies much easier to execute and teamwork a more important value since you see noobs and loners doing there own thing. there should also be more compatibility with internal microphones from the Mac or we should just be able to buy a cheap microphone from best buy and we can voice chat all day long. this would be much appreciated by me and the altitude community if this can be added

There's a mic test function on alt, but I never could figure out how to get the damn thing to work or if there was even a voice chat thingy.

I'd be up for it.

Definitely agree.
At the moment it's quite impossible to type something without crashing.

Speak for yourself, not the whole community. Personally I'm annoyed enough as is by all the 13 year olds spamming text; voice would be enough to drive me over the edge.

Again, speak for yourself, don't pass off your opinion as an agreed fact. If you don't type like a retarded sloth its easy to communicate without crashing.

- The mute function is there for a reason.
- Obviously should be possible to enable/disable the voice chat. I can't see a negative side of implementing such a thing.
- Since i type like a retarded sloth, I would appreciate that.
- Since you (Beagle) type a lot faster than me, I'd like to learn how to write a full sentence without crashing or being shot:
1) dividing it into monosyllables?
2) interrupting the play and go back and forth over the base? oh wait, in ffa there's not a base.
3) typing at over 200 wpm and competing for the world record
IMHO, this would be a great feature.

I was bringing some possible negatives to the table, but you sound pretty butthurt about it.

I'll leave you and this thread in peace.

Yeah well Luke, in FFA you dont need to coordinate teamwork either. I second what Beagle said, but given that there'll be a mute function I dont really care.. but imo there are a lot more important things than voice chat. Also, if you're circling and press enter, you'll keep circling. Typing = not hard

Hmm I think this is a bit of misunderstanding, i didn't mean to hurt anyone or to seem aggressive. :P
I was not referring to the need of coordinating teamwork, nor to the fact that we can type staying in the same spot.
Simply I would really appreciate a voice chat so that we could speak during the game, even in the middle of the fight, while keeping focus on the game itself.

I admit that devs could use the time for other purposes, and that there are alternatives like Teamspeak or similar.

Well, the mute feature would definitely be a neccessity because I can't imagine being spammed even verbally in public games. And you can always use programs like TeamSpeak or Ventrillo during a clan match.

On the other hand, how about making some basic taunts bound to hotkeys? Like 'Cover me', 'Follow me', 'Defend the base', 'Escort the bomb', etc...? I would like to see this implemented rather than the voice chat.

hey think of it like call of duty online its really helpful and fun but having hotkeys and saying the same thing all the time would make seem strange in front of your team

I'd rather not listen to random people in public games.
Also it would probably increase lag across the board which is something we don't need

Default I want this for macs

I know for some reason programing mac software is harder, and I know this sounds selfish, but I would LOVE to see the voice chat feature work for macs aswell as windows...

Have you not figured out that when you press enter the game will act as if whatever arrow keys are pressed at the time you hit enter are still pressed.

IE: Slow down to half throttle in a safe location, press enter while holding left or right, then type in safety!
There is a time limit that it will continue to hold the arrows for you though; like 8 seconds or something.

Of course everyone can type circling in a safe location. The purpose of having voice chat is that you can say more (i.e. coordinate an attack, report enemy position, manage a ball pass, ask for cover), faster and during the fight.
This could be a sort of voice multi-chat with selected users, so nobody has to worry about being voice spammed.

voice chat may one day be added.

however, given the fact that there are dozens of other voice programs (skype, google talk, yahoo msgr, msn msgr, ventrillo, team speak, etc...) with tons of features it's hard to justify the time.

Also 99% of the time when playing CSS, TF2, COD4 the voice chat is super freaking annoying (amplified by the fact that css/tf2 mute doesn't work) i end up just typing voice_enabled 0 in the console anyways.

voice would be neat and if it does get added it will likely be only supported in the friends chat room feature so you dont have to deal w/ random ppl in game playing music and being otherwise annoying...
