Default Recommend 10 Movies!

Ok, this forum badly needs a list thread, and Ive been wanting to make this for ages. Recommend us 10 amazingly good movies! Also, please no cliche movies to show your excellent taste. We've seen The Matrix, we've seen Fight Club, we've seen Pulp Fiction, we've seen Lord of the Rings. Let me write that in a bigger, more aggressive font. NO MATRIX. NO FIGHT CLUB. NO LOTR. NO BOONDOCK SAINTS. I could go on and on about movies everybody's seen, but you know what I mean. Anyway, here's my list in no particular order - all must-see's in my highly venerated opinion:

1. Léon - The Professional
2. The Good, The Bad, The Weird
3. Se7en
4. Toy Story
5. State of Play
6. Memento
7. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
8. Equilibrium
9. The Usual Suspects
10. 28 Days Later

I like your top3. A lot.

I don't really have a personal top10 or whatever, but I'll list some of the movies I like.

Some LOL ones :
Wayne's World
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Flash Gordon
The Onion Movie

Some more serious (I guess ..) :
Crank
Gone in 60 seconds (I hope you won't throw rocks at me eth, this is kinda a cliche movie ...)
Nikita (I see you like Leon, you should like this one too)
Ronin

Nice idea for a thread!
Some of my favorite movies have already been mentioned (e.g. Crank, Monthy Python, Memento...), but I easily found 10 more must-see films

In random order:

1) Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain
2) The Beat that my heart skipped
3) Spirited Away
4) Amores Perros
5) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
6) Waltz With Bashir
7) Pan's Labyrinth
8) Little Miss Sunshine
9) Waking Life
10) Let The Right One In

I saw Surrogates last night. I would recommend it as it's a pretty cool idea. However, I saw The Informant the other night and, despite its good reviews, I would not recommend it.

Fantasy/Sci-Fi
"Pan's Labyrinth" - nothing like the previously mentioned, Labyrinth, which is epic lulz and one of my favorite childhood movies of all time. Can't describe this movie accurately.
"The Fall" - in short, an unforgettable little spanish girl with a broken arm befriends a melancholy stunt man (played by Lee Pace, star of the best, and unjustifiably canceled, show on television "Pushing Daisies") in a hospital in circa 1920's spanish inhabited land of some kind. He tells her a fantastic story mirroring his own life that plays out before the audience.
"Princess Mononoke" - best anime of all time, although Akira is ridiculous, and Spirited Away is my second fav
"Willow" - George Lucas + midgets = gold, the smaller stature star played the leprechaun in "Leprechaun" (including Leprechaun: IN SPACE, and Leprechaun in tha Hood); Marvin in "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" (also strongly recommended); Professor Filius Flitwick in Harry Potter; and most notably, Wicket, the first Ewok ever encountered in Star Wars (yes, the really cute one that interacts with Princess Leia), not to mention smaller roles in Labyrinth and Ray. Oh and it has Val Kilmer and was directed by Ron Howard if you weren't already convinced
"Enemy Mine" - Dennis Quaid and Lou Gosset Jr., a human and alien must survive together on a planet that is home to neither of them

And I might add that tyr's mention of Buckaroo Banzai is hereby seconded, and that tyr is 1337, and that I stumbled on that DVD for 3 dollars on the ride down to school a couple of years ago.

Romantic
"Once" - True story, not "based" on a true story (as it was made by the very people who star in it), an Irish street musician meets an Irish/Russian musician, they fall in love and make beautiful music together.
"Amelie" - if you don't know, find out. A frenchy.
"Umbrellas of Cherbourg" - to my knowledge, the only "true" musical ever made in that all of its dialogue is sung. Another Frenchy.
"Cyrano de Bergerac" - the inspiration for the extremely funny American version of the 80's movie "Roxanne" with Steve Martin in his prime, and Daryl Hannah. The dude has a gigantor nose. Yes, another Frenchy.

Documentary
"Winged Migration" - birds fly
"Man on Wire"
"This Film is Not Yet Rated" - Kevin Smith, about MPAA
"Reefer Madness" - one of the countless examples of Propaganda directly contributing to the criminalization of marijuana in America
"American Drug War"

..real tired now and feelin like a dick for listing more then 10 so i'll just mention a few more:
The Darjeeling Limited
Birds of America
Into the Wild
Natural Born Killers
Wristcutters: A Love Story

On a side note, "Up" and "District 9" were the best movies of the summer.

District 9 was amazingly awesome. If your looking for a good comedy check out Trading Places with Eddie Murphy.

..and Coming to America, where Randolph and Mortimer have a cameo where they're hobos on the street after the events of Trading Places and Eddie Murphey's character gives them a bag of money out of pity.

As I read this thread, I see there's actually quite a lot of French movies listed.
If you really want I could probably write a good list of classic French movies, with actors such as Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Coluche, Louis de Funès and many more.

By the way, Cyrano de Bergerac is an extremely good book, if you can read french, I strongly recommend you read it.
