Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC Shennanigans

Haha, holy crap.

No dedicated servers or mod tools.

IW has control of the game
IWnet servers will host multiplayer
DLC will be a charged item for PC
No dedicated servers
Matchmaking system used to play with similarly ranked players, can't pick where/with who you want to play with
All matchmaking handled console style, matched up with random servers which are hosted by players on the fly automatically like Halo
VAC instead of PB
Semi-capable password servers
Semi-capable ad-hoc servers
Competitive play is dead
MW2 mods would not be possible

Unbelieveable. So the only thing different from playing MW2 on the PC and on a console is we have a mouse and keyboard. Always nice to see companies trying to turn PCs into consoles so we can be charged for more things like mods and maps.

Of course, what do you expect when the guy running Activision, Bobby Kottick, has gone on record to say longevity in games is a bad thing? According to him, his company won't pick up games that don't have the potential of being exploited for years to come by making yearly sequels.

Shame, I was kind of looking forward to playing this. Oh well, guess I'll never buy a game from IW or Activision again!

Wow, that sounds really awful. I was looking forward to MW2. Now I guess I'll just torrent it for SP

Aye, if I bother getting it, it'll be through pirating it, which is funny because I barely ever pirate games. But, as they say, you vote with your wallet, and I don't want companies to start seeing this as a trend they should follow.

I'd tear the throat out of anyone who pirated this game. The demo users are bad enough. This is a great new game and its a shame to see hundreds of people refusing to pay for this and happily playing for free while Call of Rehashing: Moderner Warfare 7: Madden 2012 Edition gets sixty jillion purchases from the same type of people.

Be happy that they made a PC version at all. They went on record after CoD4 saying that piracy made it barely profitable, and that there's really no reason for them to make anything but console games from now on. I assume they just didn't want to bother putting in the effort to differentiate it from the console version since no one will buy it anyway.

EDIT: Er, barely made the PC version profitable I mean. Obviously the console versions were massive successes and made retarded amounts of money.

**** COD, anything except COD and COD:UO sucks, those games are really good, and when we lan time is spent 90% on original CODs, rest of them just suck.

on another note a PC FPS w/ a matchmaker has been a long time coming. I would still play CSS if it had one.

Not surprising, and I think it needed to be said regardless so hopefully future companies won't hamstring their games with a matchmaking system like that.
