Default Wiki Editing - HTML vs Wiki formatting

Before I go ahead and write up a preliminary wiki page for the APL, I was wondering if one of the devs, Maimer, or another wiki contributor could give their comments on whether I should use HTML or wiki code for the tables and such.

I understand both sides of the argument. Personally, I would go for wiki code because it takes up so much less space and is faster to write. However, I also understand HTML as it is easy to read and can be tab-organized.

I've seen so far that most of the Wiki pages are organized in wiki code, but some (like the main page) are written in HTML. I just wanted to see before writing something if there was an overall verdict on which one should be used.

Any thoughts?

Karl did the main page and he did it in HTML because he was more comfortable with that. As for the rest, I did most of the rest. I know HTML, but there are things you can do in a wiki using wiki-code that you can't do with HTML. I say just do whatever you are comfortable with. Just the fact that you are willing to put time into the wiki is good! You are welcome to copy any of the stuff that's in the wiki now. If you need an account let me know and I can create one for you (if you don't already have one).

my reasons to use HTML
  1. I know it and so do lots of other people
  2. I dont know wiki code and dont want to learn it
  3. I have an HTML editor that validates as I write
  4. I can test the HTML in IE6, IE7, FireFox, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, etc without uploading it to the wiki first
  5. wiki just outputs HTML in the end so there's nothing wiki can do that HTML cannot. Obviously there are special wiki tags that essentially act as server side scripting which html cannot do. For example, __TOC__.

but like maimer said use whatever you're more comfortable with... wiki, html or wiki+html.

so get to it and add lots of goodness to the wiki
