I wanna add that most of the players on this list are pretty damn good ball players! If you play ball you should watch and learn!

(Although, I have to disclose I think a lot of these guys stole my moves!)

good stuff, leaf.

I believe this was brought up recently in the context of an organized ball match--I'd love to see an organized structure for this sort of thing. Are there enough ball-playing groups to justify some sort of tournament?

And thanks, nesnl

edit: Oh, I also have {BALL} Anghell on my list, though I haven't seen them playing in a long time.

One thing I'd like to suggest is we make our clan name uniform--we're about 50/50 {ball} and {BALL}. I opted for the former because I couldn't see my whole name on the scoreboard with the caps :P

We tried a ball tournament a few months ago. But since the only participants were mostly-tbd teams, game weren't great.
Maybe we can try some ball matches again in the future. I personally think I've learned ball enough to play it pretty well (you may find me sometimes on the fun servers as ACE.tyr) and I'm trying to teach my team as well so yeah.
We could try that at some point.

Ah, I see. TBD used to be the only thing I played--once ball came out, though, I never turned back (except sometimes in the old days with that big goofy ball and those big goofy goals).

Anyway, ball to me seems like a faster-paced TBD with passing. I bet TBD players would love ball too if they spent a little time playing!

yeah, I got around that by taking out or adding a space for a day and then fixing it again later. Kind of a pain, but it works.

The next thing I'd like to address is joining--moxie (and whoever else recruited people) did a great job just kind of picking people out of the air, and I'm not opposed to asking people to join when you see some really great players, but should we have some kind of try-out system?

I kind of like about this clan that it does not seem to be very elitist, and I'd like to keep it that way. But at the same time, we probably can't just have everyone join, either...not that it's been a problem so far :P

Talking {ball} rocks

boy am i happy i was a asked to join this wonderfull group of folks, and it was before i bought the real game. Too bad jazzpass had to leave the game. I must admit i steal move from all who make great ones so watch out im lOOkinig.

On a personal note; The one thing that kept me playing the demo at first was how nice the people were when i made stupid mistakes and they gave me advice. It seems like now everyone is to happy to hound folks instead of advising them to make the game better.(I know that there are some folks that dont want advice)
I say we ({ball}/{BALL})'ers keep giving tips for the good of the game.

FYI check out why I am called arty at www.arthurnorcome.com

That's true, this clan (and the ball game itself) is also why I ended up buying the game...I held out for a long time, too! That, and I had logged ~100 hours and felt bad about it :P

Once the Miranda is rebalanced in ball, I might take it seriously, but for now I'm gonna stick with TBD.

what do you mean rebalanced? LeKai uses one to great success. I'm aggravated enough by them that they don't seem underpowered, yet few enough people use them that they don't seem overpowered either...what specific issues do you have with it?

even with leKai the ball get stuck on their plane so the flow of the game changes.
one good emp and they are toast most of the time if they have ball.

However there are a few ball stages where a good maranda will wipe the floor with folks, but not enough of them to get me upset.

You think think that Miranda is underpowered? o_o If you played Fives ball, I'm pretty sure that Miranda is mandatory. Self passing is too good.

So I guess this is the first ball clan team. I guess you'll start a fad. Good luck!

well, fair enough I guess. I'd say most planes don't make great ball carriers, though...they're all good in support, I think.

Hopefully! To the next bunch to think it's a good idea: we already refer to {ball} clan members as ballers, so keep thinkin' of a name. :P

I meant Mira in ball is overpowered. If you played in the preseason, you can attest to this. That selfpass is just too good.

Actually, I'm pretty sure miranda in ball is obsolete right now.
You can ask Maimer.

Once I do the rotaltitude challence you'll see what I'm talking about. As of now, double fire loopy > everything else, in my opinion.
And you know that I know what bucket and other good miranda players are capable to do with a ball in their hands.

Well, the way I see it, as the number of people in the game goes up than the more powerful loopy becomes, but as the number of people in the game goes down, then the more powerful miranda becomes.

I still think in a 5v5 game, that miranda poses to much of an issue because if it has a clear lane to the goal then nothing can stop it. However, I wouldn't worry too much about it for now because I think that there will be changes to the ball mode that will fix all these problems as well as make the game better as a whole. Just wait until after the Steam release.

Miranda is far from obsolete in ball! It's actually the best plane for scoring. What with that throw/catch trick.

I think you hit it spot on. However in tourney 5v5 format, randa is still too vicious.

I think we got a little off topic, haha.

Anyway, in {ball} news, I'm working on getting a server set up on my office computer. Having issues with the firewall right now I think (even though I set up port forwarding), but it's named "People's Republic of {BALL}".

If you see it, try to join, and let me know how it is!

i added gator too, hope that's cool. I think you'd talked to him earlier, tg, but he was leaving or something so he didn't join then.
And jazzspaz is {ball} for a day because I got 4 goals to his 1. He technically challenged Moxie though, so he said he'd only do it for a day, lol.

a system for adding people would definitely be cool, not everyone can do what ruke2 did.

--randomness-- i got 7 goals in a game a little while ago

also, im realllly glad we got Triky Rik, he's awesome! Runs the give and go to *perfection*

one more thing, we should start a group so we don't get yelled at for making this thread too long.

I may be interested in joining at a later date, though am out of commission for a bit
stay around please

I am an ex-member of [$], been playing since June-ish. Currently in ICE, which is supposedly an all ball team, but I don't really see any information about it here, plus I have seen you ball guys around quite a bit more and enjoy playing with/against you.

figured i'd post now while my name is still known and sorry if I broke any rules by posting here

No problem. It's not a big deal to have long threads (check out the fLb thread), what makes the Mods mad is when people double or even triple-post the same thread.

So I think we've worked out a basic tryout system. Get a few current {ball} members and observe the player in BALL. Then, play a round of FFA and see how the player does. No need to decide immediately, unless the person is that good. I think a decent {ball} member should be able to score one goal in most rounds of BALL, and/or come in top three in FFA, but exceptions can be made.

We probably have enough loopy players to make two clans, so let's focus on other planes for now.

Am I missing anything?

I think that's a good point, leaf--the clan is getting pretty big. We need some diversity--an awesome goalie whale or bomber, for example, would be a nice addition.

I'm not so convinced by FFA ability...I consider myself a decent ball player, but I usually have a terrible ratio. I kill a lot most times, but I die frequently (flexy loopy does that to a guy)...I think the only measure of a baller is BALL. Perhaps we should schedule tryouts--several of us get a private game and play with a few prospectives at once, if there are multiple, and see who's good that way.

That's why I said exceptions can be made. You're one of the best in the game at BALL, but your ratio isn't great. Goals are the #1 factor when considering clan membership, but to me, FFA is very important. As an example, I recently played an all {ball} round against a non-{ball} team and we lost 6-2 or 6-4... can't remember. It was clear that having players who can score goals is not enough for a good team. You need some high-ratio planes, too. When we were trying out CCN Love (edit: aka Santa Clause CCN), he was scoring goals left and right, but that was as a miranda. What about when they change the self-pass feature? I want to know if he can kill, which clearly he can.

Yah i think we are done with loopys unless we can get someone who can kill like crazy or is better than us (eg brillo............ but that's not gonna happen).
i think we should also start encouraging members to join the forums and the {ball} group so we can communicate and maybe organize some matches

I'm down, if I can (and there aren't enough of us going who are better than I am, haha). Those times are mostly good for me, too. I'm East coast, but late is generally better. We should definitely bring Rik and brillo, if this is to be our debut! How big a game is it?

Well hey guys, just joined the community of online posters for altitude. So about this "tryouts" idea, I think it's a great idea, but wiseguy, leaf, and I should be there when we hold them, just letting you know my ideas.
