Default Tournament Practices - update

I've added two new practice dates. Our next practice is Thursday, January 28th, at 9:30pm Pacific (GMT-8).

For the full schedule, see http://tinyurl.com/ballpractices.

I can guarantee you that spots on both the starting and sub rosters are open and will depend partly on who shows up to practice!

Who, new statement for your thesis:

Mastering the game of Altidude is in direct correlation to the meaning of life: loopy's rule and whale's drool, ugh ..... fatties.

Default MOXIE, founder

I'm not sure how many of you have actually played with MOXIE, the founder of {ball}, but he just PM'ed me to let me know he will not be playing any more because his parents have cut off his supply.

A little back story (the history of {ball/*}):

One day, around the 1st of November 2009, MOXIE asked me if I wanted to be in a clan. I asked him the name and he said, "{ball}". I was SOLD because I love the game of BALL and I knew it was just a casual clan... no league play or rules or real structure. He also asked wiseguy, so we quickly had a clan of three. We all recruited players over the next month or so (drunkguava was an early member and a strong one), to create what was -- until recently -- a very bloated clan. We then split into two teams, {ball} and {ball*}, and cut several players to trim down.

Since MOXIE was not around much/at all over those couple of months, I took leadership of the clan and poured my energy into organizing it, and into building what I thought a {ball} clan should represent, namely talent, good attitude, and good teamwork.

MOXIE at times came back for a brief moment and either had no interest in running the clan or had very specific ideas for how it should be run (but wasn't able to put the time or effort into putting those ideas in place). I removed MOXIE's co-captain status and have since designated him as "founder."

MOXIE is, I think, disappointed that our clan is no longer a casual, "just for fun" gathering of folks, but my response to that is that it would not have lasted this long if it had no functional leader and no structure. I also imagine that the current members are very pleased with what we have accomplished (becoming a strong BALL clan, generally being respected for our in-game and forum contributions, creating a Guide to Ball, holding discussions about BALL strategy on our private site, fielding a team for the upcoming 6v6 tournament, etc.).

And the rest, as they say, is history. If you happen to see {ball} MOXIE (a bomber) around, say hello and thank him for founding this great clan.

Default 6v6 Tourney Prep

Hey {ball/*},

I've started a post/document to discuss short-term ideas and tactics for next weekend's 6v6 Tournament. It's on the strategy site: http://ballstrategy.wordpress.com/20...urnament-prep/

Right now it's just me blowing hot air out of my ass; please add yours and let's see if we can get a circlejerk going there, too. =P

None of my business, I guess, but why is LeKai so far down your bench list? He's good.

Good is an understatement, but to answer your question, the starters are detemermined by skill level (which he has), practice availability (which he has not), and tournament availability (which is questionable).

I also alphabetize rosters, so if he wanted to change his name to AKai, he would be first!

We don't take the idea of subs lightly, either. Any of those subs could fill in at a moment's notice and positively impact team play.

Not quite, wolfie. We have a bye for round 1. That means we're playing on core and mayhem2 first. =(

So... we should be practicing primarily on: core (1), mayhem2 (2), maze (3), darkwar (2), cave (2), and snow (1). The numbers in parentheses are the number of times we could theoretically see those maps.

Looks like we'll just be watching round 1, though. (Are spectators allowed?)

Edit: ahh, beat me to it, leaf. Two of my less favorite maps, for sure...oh well!

Default {ICE} vs. {ball} results

We played four games 5v5 against {ICE}.

Everyone played well, but I want to single out Nikon and awesome3. Nikon was fierce with a nearly 2.0 ratio for the match, assisting on and scoring several goals, and flying in patterns to avoid the opponents. awesome3 had our first ever quadruple hat trick!!! He somehow managed to score 13 goals in four games, recording a hat trick in every single game.

The number of kills per team was even in the first game, but after that {ball} averaged 19 more kills per game than {ICE} in the remaining three games.

Playing for {ICE} were: carstairs, York, Pein+, Russianator, Vega.
Playing for {ball} were: Harmonica, Nikon, gator, awesome3, wiseguy, tgleaf.

Results: {ball} wins four games to zero.

Maps, in order:
cave: 6-1 {ball} (MVP: awesome3)
mayhem: 6-0 {ball} (MVP: awesome3)
middleground: 6-0 {ball} (MVP: awesome3)
grotto: 6-1 {ball} (MVP: awesome3)

Match Awards:
Most goals in one game: awesome3, 4 goals (middleground); one of four hat tricks!
Most deadly: tgleaf, 26 kills (mayhem)
Best kill streak: awesome3, 5 kills in a row (grotto) AND wiseguy, 5 kills in a row (middleground)

Match MVP:
awesome3

I might not be able to play the hole tourny because I have to go somewhere else for the superbowl. and that is at 4:30 so it shouldn't be that bad.

Default {BL} vs. {ball} ???

{BL} is interested in a scrim before the tourney, so if you see enough of them (and of {ball/*}) online, set something up.

I doubt we'll have a chance to schedule anything official before the weekend, but impromptu matches are fine.

fun games tonight, guys. too bad the server had to go down . I like playing against tbd'ers (good ones). Can we try and get our starting team, and maybe some more together Thursday night so we can play some? I liked harm's or whoever's idea to just get our team together, flood an official server and try and convince the others to play some ball, all vs {ball}.
