Default Ubuntu Karmic Horrible Sound

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and am having two issues with alt:

1) When I start up Alt, I get crazy scratching noises that sound a little bit like the splashscreen music. Sometimes it will clear up for a few seconds and play the correct music, but then cuts out completely. I have been playing Alt with no sound.

2) When I quit Alt or restart after getting an update, the game hangs, and I eventually force quit. I can't load the game again unless I logout and log back into my ubuntu user account.

I understand that there are various issues with running linux and getting programs to work. I can play Alt on my macbook pro perfectly, but I wanted to give feedback.

Take it easy,

You need proper OpenAL drivers on linux. There are several solutions on linux but I cannot remember what they are.

This thread might help a little:

Ahha,

Still have a weird thing with updates:

After updating, I can restart or exit.

If I exit, Alt exits and I can load it up again just fine.

If I restart, Alt does not exit, and if I force quit it, it will not run unless I logout and log back in to ubuntu.
Not a biggie though.

Thanks!
Back to the heights...

I got exactly the same problem as what described in the original post and I am running Ubuntu karmic. I will check that I have the openal package installed when I get home.

I can however suggest something else if the openal package dosn't fix the issue for you.

since I discovered the problem I thought I give the windows version ago via wine and that worked 100%... Leaves a bitter taste in my mouth but it works...
