Default Clan + Clan versus Clan + Clan

How about a tbd game mode with four teams and four bases?

I'm still trying to figure out how to make a 4-base map so that no single team has an advantage (i.e. being higher up on the map = enemies have to fight gravity to bomb).

Also, this type of game mode could lead to tag team formats in both competitive or casual games, where you have two clans with a base each going against another two clans with a base each (maybe 5&5 v 5&5).

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions, comments?

edit: A 4 clan tag-team (2 clans to a team) map could be one where you have a non-wrap map with two bases at each end, one above the other. That way, no team will have a natural advantage.

For a 3-base or 4-base map, you'd just have a ffa-tbd kind of game, where the team with the last standing base wins, and all bases are at the same level, with a possible underground passageway and wrap.

I like the concept, but this would be difficult in implimentation. I honestly see a 2&2 vs 2&2 or 3&3 vs 3&3 the way it would happen so it doesn't clutter the game. At that point you're probably better off playing a captain game though >.>

But a captain game is still 1 team/1 base vs 1 team/1 base. Or did you mean something else?

I love this idea. To make it so that no team has an advantage, make it so that all four bases at on the same height, just all in a row. Then make it so that the map wraps, and in that way, each base will be equidistant to two other bases. (Hehe I can't believe I actually just used the word equidistant)

Hmmmm the map will have to be 2, 3 or maybe even 4 times a regular tbd map. I don't think the map editor allows for four bases, but if lamster/karl like this idea, and they implement it, maybe all the genius mapmakers out there can see this as a challenge for a whole new line of 4-base maps? *cough*maimer*cough*

what about having 3 bases on the map? 1 team 1 base + 1 neutral base. After destroying the base - it changes color to the team, that have smashed it. Wins the team who gets all of the 3 bases.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but in case you're not, that is a completely new game mode idea. You could make a new thread for it of you'd like.

I like this idea because Control Point maps in TF2 were really fun. If the maps were balanced to be fastpaced it would be great.

I am not sure if this is possible but you could have the maps wrap both vertically and horizontally so you can go down from any base. I cannot fathom how the gameplay would be but it seems to be a logical way to try a 4 base setup.

you could just start trying a 4 v 4 v 4 with 3 teams and 3 bases. that could be a good mode. but the editor doesnt allow 3 bases. so its up to karl lam...

As much as I like this idea in concept, I really can't think of a base layout where you could have 4 bases and have it balanced. If you had bases in a line then attacking bases that were not right next to your base would be overly difficult as you'd have to fly over a different base. If you put the bases at different heights then the higher bases would have a natural advantage. It would take some real creative map design to fix those problems.

A three base layout wouldn't be too hard, though. Just have a map that wraps and have three bases that are equidistant from each other on the map. It would have to be larger than a standard map though.

maybe a "king of the hill" type game, where u land on a base to captur it, and it has to be yours for an amount of time. the other team can re-capture it by landing on it. what do u think? new game mode?

Not a bad idea and the "land on a base to do something" functionality is already used in demolition, but this thread is not about that idea. Why not make another?

I don't know how much work it is to enable four bases in the map editor, but I guess karl & lam have lots of stuff on their plate with all the other suggestions in this forum which are minor and can be done easily.

i know this will be damn near impossible for karl and lamster to do, but since there are multiple layers on the map, have 2 teams on layer A and the other 2 on layer B. The two winning teams would then face off against each other.

For the 3/4 teams tbd, have sort of a wraparound, except that instead of going off screen, you just see the other side of the map.

Current way:
------------------
.....................
.....................
.....................
.....................
.....................
.....................
_____________

The "|"'s equal the side of the screen where the camera stops moving.

Possible new way:

...............................
...............................
...............................
...............................
...............................
So its just one giant map that is in a "circle." This also eliminates having the advantage of not being able to see incoming bombers from the wraparound. (and YES I know it will screw up the background. But Karl and Lamster are genuises, so they'll figure out something). This could also be applied to ffa maps and ball maps that have wraparounds. The arrow that points to the ball points to the nearest direction and tells you how much time you have untill you reach it.

Edit: Please don't flame this idea.
