Tournament suggestions
So I'm going to swim against the tide here and suggest a few things from my BALL-playing experience. I know nothing about how tournaments are organized, or how much time is available for matches, etc., so correct me where I'm wrong, but...
6v6 is a great size for BALL. I am happy that that change was made. The maps are going to be key, especially in a Best of One (more on that later) match. TBD vets seem to love maps like woods and despise maps like snow. To us hardcore BALL folks, woods is a disaster of a map. Yes, I understand it was used for the summer league TBD finals, and I know it's a well-designed map for that, but it has plenty of problems as a BALL map (some of which are wide open spaces without obstacles, a spawn point below the goal and below mid-map, a cluster**** top area worse than most, etc.). Some BALL vets have chimed in about maps... listen to what they are suggesting. We tend to congregate around darkwar, mayhem (not mayhem2), and snow. Maze tends to work well but can be too randa-friendly (not necessarily a bad thing). Core is strange for ball, but has potential, as does lostcity. Cave is pretty interesting but can get crowded. So, about the structure: Best of One in a TBD match makes a lot of sense. Matches are slow, build over time, and can take 20 minutes. A BALL match, on the other hand, is fast-paced and several goals can be scored within a minute or two. Teams need a game or two to "size each other up," whereas in TBD this can happen over the course of the long match. Ideally, BALL should be Best of five, or even longer -- but I tend to favor Best of five. Could we at least go with Best of three and Best of five for the finals? Thanks for considering... Yeah I agree with that.
Best of one is just ... literally 5 minutes per match. If you really wish to keep it extremely short, bo3 would be perfect. As for the maps, Snow is personally my favorite ball map. Followed by maze. Maps I don't like are mostly mayhem 1 and woods. I never really played on core though. But yeah, Snow should definitely be in the map pool.

Also in agreeance here. A best out of 1 could be lost simply because a team member dced for 10 seconds or had to download the map. Some matches might only take a minute or two. I imagine between the best of teams that could scale up to maybe 10 minutes or so but hardly the time of a TBD match.
Similarly, I think woods needs to have less open of areas and a top spawn instead of a bottom. However, I prefer mayhem2 to mayhem - although that could be because of the 10v10's I've played.

Agreed, tgleaf. 1 game is way too short. bo3 at least (as stated above). I also think cave would work for 6v6. It gets too crowded at 7 or 8.
I suggested this earlier and i think it's still valid. How about a poll? The best ball maps are darkwar and snow and it would be really sad if we had to suffer through woods instead of either one of those.

Hi guys,
Ball matches are quick, and the games are on 10 minute timers. Later matches would be.. 20 - 40 minutes after early matches. I see that 2pm GMT is too early for a lot of people so how would it be if I pushed it back to 6pm GMT. Also, map choices are a big concern and on the 12th a preliminary selection will be put up and open to comments (but I think the picks are on the most suitable). Right now the considered map pool is use is: Snow, Mayhem, Mayhem2, Maze, Darkwar, Core, and Cave. They will be assigned (so theres no veto and choosing when setting up maps). My main problem is getting them on the servers. If anyone has been on contact with tec if you can get those maps on there it would be a great help. I'll send him a PM right soon as well asking for such (and hoping he's willing). If this can't be done then Wood's may go back in rotation. What I was thinking is having 2 B01's right after each other. The tourney should be way quicker then TBD and it gives everyone a second chance (re-seeding). I would be more inclined to run two tourneys and give everyone this 2nd shot at glory but if you want a Bo3 instead that will be what it is (and bo5 finals). so please post if A) 2 Tourney's, Bo1's (Bo3 finals) (this is my inclination as it changes the tourney into a more march madness anyone can have glory situation) B) 1 Tourney's, Bo3's (Bo5 finals) I expect a lot of scrims to happen (as there are many teams out and about), and we have the servers to host this before and after the tourney. even for est guys 1:30 gmt is 8:30am for them.
being pst 5:30am isnt the greatest time for me to play i guess 6pm gmt is ok for me  (10am on a sunday? meh!)that being said, option 2 fo sho to get gmt time zone difference: pst people: +4 and flip AM - PM / PM - AM est people: +7 and flip AM - PM / PM - AM
