What video card are you using?
Are your video drivers up to date?
Are you using any non-standard settings on your video card, for example buffering disabled, triple buffering, override vsync?
What FPS is the game reporting? When playing, in the bottom left corner of the screen, it displays your ping and FPS in white text; what range of numbers are shown there?

Things to try in-game:

(1) Fullscreen/windowed mode [Options -> Graphics -> Fullscreen] -- does the flicker occur on both windowed and fullscreen mode?

(2) Different resolutions [Options -> Graphics -> Resolution] -- does the flicker occur at low resolutions (800x600 or 1024x768)? At native resolution (1920x1200)?

(3) optionsGraphicsVsync console command [Press F1 to open the console, then type optionsGraphicsVsync] -- disable vsync by typing "optionsGraphicsVsync false" <enter>. Did this remove the flicker in either windowed or fullscreen mode? If not, turn vsync back on with "optionsGraphicsVsync true".

(4) testTargetFps console command [Press F1 to open the console, then type testTargetFps] -- what is the current value according to the console (a window should pop up with 'Current value: xx')? Try another value by typing "testTargetFps 59" <enter> or "testTargetFps 30" <enter> or "testTargetFps 100" <enter>.

Did anything listed above help? How often does the flicker occur? Many times per second, once every few seconds?

Bump

I have the same problem. The screen flickers, it's like having giant Vsync problems.

I have followed previous instructions: Changing the resolution to 1024 or 640 and to native 1900x1200

Screen stills flickers

Changing Vsync on or off: does not help.

testtargetfps to 60, 50, 40, 30, 100, 80, all those do not help, although changing it to very low seems to reduce the flickering, but well, very low fps, is very low fps

Could you send a bug report? Join a server, open the chat window, and type
/reportBug

Sounds like a video card issue, try updating your video drivers.

Very strange. Windowed/fullscreen mode doesn't help? Are there any other games you can play that don't exhibit the same problems?

Please describe the flicker behavior more. Is it a bright/dark flicker, like the monitor was losing power, or a screen tear, like really bad vsync? How often does the flicker occur?

Also try this:
Right click desktop -> Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Vertical sync -> Force on -> Apply

I appreciate the attention ! Thank you.

So, windowed full scren does not help.

Forcing Vsync On didn t help

I have also tried triple buffering. Not helping.

I have never experienced such problems with any other game, old ( like AOE2 ) or new ( like Dawn Of War 2 )

I would describe this problem as a bad TV horizontal setting, those horizontal bars keep going up and down, as the whole screen blinks.

It's playable, but each time I close the game I realize my eyes hurt. A lot

The flicker occur all the time.

Could you describe the flicker rate (flickers per second) under these configurations:
1) vsync on, testTargetFps 59
2) vsync off, testTargetFps 59
3) vsync on, testTargetFps 30
4) vsync off, testTargetFps 30
?
I'm still not sure what it could be!

Reading up on this issue it sounds like a common problem with Windows 7 64-bit (at least the latest beta release); here's one solution that's worked for quite a few people:

Download RivaTuner here: http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner
Then customize the driver settings, and choose "block transfer" as the back buffer flipping mode, as pictured below:

Edit: You may experience low frame rates until Microsoft/Nvidia/ATI actually release proper OpenGL drivers.

The last instructions did not work that well: after doing that, the game starts and the screen stays black. I can hear the music tho.

Have you tried this beta driver for Windows 7 64-bit from Nvidia? Beta drivers can be risky but I'm guessing these have less issues than the latest official release: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_x64_181.71_beta.html

oh shiny ! I didn't know there was such a thing as a windows 7 driver

I'm going to try it right away.

weeeee

EDIT: hmm, for some reason, Nvidia says that they don't find any hardware compatible... Now I'm not sure I want to go into the nvidia driver .inf world again, just because Altitude doesn't work while all others game work

EDIT2: Oh I know, this release does not support M cards. which is notebook cards. gonna go check if there is a M version of this thing.

EDIT3: yeaaah... you sure you want me to do this ? people have tried and failed modding the inf of this release... All my other games are working fine ! why wouldn't altitude work ?

I'm guessing it's because Altitude uses OpenGL. ATI/Nvidia have been slow to add proper OpenGL support for Windows 7; most major games these days use DirectX.
