Great gameplay mechanics.
Active community. Good balancing of planes. Interesting graphics (nice animations than Subspace). Good lack of lag (though I have trouble on some servers where my ping jumps to 400... Still working on my packet loss problem). Good music. Didn't like getting sworn at 10+ times the first time I left newbie arena. Didn't like people's lack of passing in Ball. Didn't like how it kept me from staying active in other game. Didn't like that clans do not play each other regularly. Did not like the lack of mentor-system. Did not like that there were no macros for communicating (e.g. Attack, Defend, Get Open, Need Help, Regroup, Target <type> Planes, Good job, Good game, Get back to base, Get the ball, Get the bomb, Get the powerup, Get health, Chase the enemy, Attack my target, Spread-out (e.g. for two friendly bomb runs), Go high, Go low, Go middle, Get back, GoGoGo). Didn't like that I could not fix my packet-loss problem. Didn't like the lack of elitist servers. Didn't like dodging mines. Liked the instant-gratification from levelling. Didn't like the filesize. Lack of cool animations on menu screen. Would like to see more elitists, so that I can copy them. So far... I've had to learn everything about Miranda from myself, and while that gave me gratification (I did not want spoilers from the forums), I had to... Do stuff, because nobody was there to copy from :/ So yeah, get a cooler animation on the title screen, and setup a macros-system. |

Play in non bouncy servers to play "elite" players if you mean TBD. For good ball players I wouldn't know.

A lack of elitists is certainly a new one.

From what I gather you like high skill ceilings and elitists apparently, but not mine dodging, something that requires you to be quite skilled at flying.. does not compute.

We actually have a very active group of "elitists", but they often prefer tbd and 1dm matches and playing with them might be associated, at least initially, with an increase in "getting sworn at 10+ times." Once you learn the rules (like don't hog/waste the bomb) you'll find they are quite nice however.

I have to admit I laughed when I read this. If you want elitests, check out my team, [T.C.]. It's full of them (Natural). Don't agree with most complaints on here except the chat macros. Those would be useful.

Hmm, I should resign-up (*signup again) under 'MapleSyrup', as my IGN is MapleSyrup instead of Phenoca. However, I've been using 'Phenoca' for years, and might forget my login name.
Hey! I did play on a TBD with a whole bunch of [acronym] players... Got the winning shot off after like 40 minutes ![]() I think that my favourite part of TBD is shooting at my teammates... Not the most pro, but the only other option is to shoot at the other team :/ So, I should look at [fLb] and [T.C.]. @eth: No, dodging mines will always be annoying. I just learned a few hours ago that there is a difference between regular mines and remote detonating. But worst of all, if you are playing Ball, and a passageway gets mined-up, then you cannot go through that way. Mines + a Goalie = Gandalf + a Balrog Nothing passes ![]() Last edited by Phenoca; 01-11-2010 at 05:34 AM. Reason: Changed smiley from a :/ to a :( |

It's quite simple to dodge normal mines. Remote depends on whether the Explodet is still hanging around watching.
You'll get a feel for the blast radius with experience and they stop being such a problem. |

http://nimblygames.com/wiki/index.ph...Proleague_2009 Check out the list of higher ranked teams, they have higher level players. There are a couple of really good freelance players too. Also mine dodging comes with experience

I think maybe there should be in game links to the wiki pages that talk about each plane. Especially for new kids on the block - what do you all say? Yay or Nay? |

There should just be a main link to wiki from the game, they can explore for themselves.

Well, most/all of the plane guides/game type guides written in the forums were created by what you would term as 'elitists', so I don't understand why you don't want to read them...

Good observations, I think. I met you tonight briefly during TBD.
Spend some time with {ball} if you want to learn more about BALL from experienced players. |

I go through stages. 1) Pillage and Loot 2) Form friendships and non-aggressions pacts 3) Small leadership roles and community-activeness 4) Dispersed forum-usage 5) Completely inactive In stages 2-5 I like trying creative gameplay methods, but if I start copying killer strategies in stage 1 then I won't get to be creative later-on. It helps to see the game through a newbie's eyes, because you only get one chance, and because beginner's luck is the bane of pros. In other words, I didn't read the guides so that I could understand the base-impulses of a newbie, and how we view dogfights. Then when I get decent at Altitude I will be better at psychological-manipulation and mindgames due to more experience. Even more important - reading tutorials is boring. Thanks tgleaf ![]() What is CSS? And how much sarcasm did I just miss? |

CSS is a clan. And actually, there was no sarcasm. I was trying to heal a rift I helped create.

I strongly support this idea. There should be a button/link to the forums and the wiki from in-game. I can't keep track of how many times I've heard (even experienced) players say "There are forums?"

Clans play each other all the time. Most of the times I log on there's a scrimmage happening in the Captains Games server or the Proleague servers. We also have Proleagues, where the clans compete against each other in TBDs and occasionally Ball matches. On top of that, we have "Non-official" clan matches organized by members of clans to fill the space in-between Proleagues.
I'm gonna say what I think should be a sticky in every sub-forum: You will not understand this game, nor will you have any clue of what is actually going on within the game, after even a month's play. Making complaints/suggestions about the game with such a low amount of playtime should be done VERY carefully. Suggestions like chat macros are good ones, because a lack of chat macros is something that's obvious from the get-go. However, complaints about clans not being active while clearly they are, as well as complaints about there not being enough "elite" players around when clearly there are some online virtually all the time, shows that you haven't been around very long and haven't learned how the game really works yet. These kinds of suggestions or complaints are useless to the community and only serve to take up space. A better approach would be to ask someone where all the "good" players hang out, or where the clans usually go to scrim each other. It's perfectly understandable that you have some issues with game and want some feedback, but just give it a chance. Observe, ask questions in-game, ask questions here on the forums, but don't just go posting complaints on the forums without having figured out the game first. |

The thread title is called "first impressions". This is probably what goes on through demo heads, these very things. Things we should improve on. They only have 3 hours, not a month, to grasp the game and then decide. This is good information for the creators, what to work on to help grab more buyers.

First impressions are just as important to a strong community as long-term gameplay. Also, I have a habit of critiquing, since over half of the games that I play seriously are in beta or pre-beta. Quote:
If I couldn't find the things that I wanted to know through 15 minutes of forum-surfing, then I reckon that other newbies have similar gaps in their knowledge. I didn't mean to be impolite be listing everything I disliked about my Altitude experience. In fact, I've been banned more than once for saying things like, "storage buildings should cost less to upgrade because they currently don't store enough units to be upgraded, and allied warships should not attack each other" (actually happened in a game that was gaining 1000s of registrations per day). I am pleased that most of my issues with Altitude are fixable on my part. Quote:
Are there items in 1DM? If not, then I would enjoy it. TY I bought the game before playing it (after watching diogenesdog's video), and I think the only relevant things I listed were: Did not like the lack of mentor-system (most games do not have this). Didn't like that I could not fix my packet-loss problem (fixed (thanks Eric)). ... I still don't know how to change my username, and I think that one of the in-game objectives could be to do this (i.e. join a clan). But if someone's paid for the game, it's not needed. Hm. I mean if someone can do this then they've purchased the game. I found the newbie arena VERY friendly and fun. It helped that stealing kills is easy, and I liked being able to get to level 36 before leaving. What is the maximum level in Altitude? I know I made Level 60 within 47 hours of buying Altitude. |
