Steam Update broke the game
I'm getting this after the Steam update today..
Tried restarting steam, same error msg. I'm getting this error from all Altitude applications, the editor, server launcher, server configurator and the game itself. Code:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: em.update.client.launch.UpdateLauncher at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at com.exe4j.runtime.LauncherEngine.launch(Unknown Source) at com.exe4j.runtime.WinLauncher.main(Unknown Source) Caused by: java.io.IOException: unexpected EOF at sun.misc.Resource.getBytes(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.net.URLClassLoader.access$000(Unknown Source) ... 8 more Reading the patch notes there's just the old update news, and I always recieve updates in-game and not through steam.. It's working for me. Try this:
1) Open "My Games" on Steam 2) Right click Altitude 3) Select Properties 4) Click "Local Files" tab 5) Verify integrity of game cache... |

Same error for me, gonna try that again :/
Ah, it's because I had a server running while steam updated the game.. Closed the server and now it works, there wasn't even a new update so why is steam doing this? :P Last edited by Seiseki; 01-21-2010 at 08:25 PM. |

Please email every file in the directory C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\altitude\log to support@nimblygames.com and I'll take a look.
Edit: that makes sense, simultaneous server/Steam updates would certainly cause issues. You may want to install another copy of Altitude from http://altitudegame.com/download.html and then run your server from that shortcut (the server will automatically update itself, and this way there's no chance of a Steam conflict). Unfortunately Steam has a parallel update structure that we need to maintain for new Steam players. Last edited by lamster; 01-21-2010 at 08:33 PM. |

No problem, I solved it by closing down the altitude server running and then did what you suggested and it worked..
Seems like it the steam updater couldn't access the 2 files that the server was using while updating and somehow that broke something.. Last edited by Seiseki; 01-22-2010 at 01:44 AM. |
