Default Voice Chat

I am trying to get the people in the clans that I am in to get Skype running. Some of them won't do it because of ping problems. I personally don't have ping problems from running skype, but I guerss some do. It would be cool if you can use team voice chat in the game. This way, you can use it all of the time. You won;t have to add people to you Skype. Even in ladder games, as long as you have a mic, I guess, we should be able to talk in game. (team chat takes to long to type out sometimes)

You can run your own ventrilo server for free up to 8 connections, otherwise pay $5/mo somewhere.

Or go teamspeak.

Skype is one of the worst ideas for communication during matches.

Skype uses peer to peer technics for their voicechat.

This, together with the high codec it uses can easily cause lags and pingissues.
The problem is, if you talk, your client has to send your message to every other client connected in that chat.

Most people with DSL got a low upload, which often isn't very neccessary.
But if you want to transfer your voicemessage to 4 other people you need 4 times the amount of upload then for one person, and then DSL connections with low upload run in problems.

Yes, lam and karl could add voice chat, but it would be much easier, and way better to just setup some kind of server for ventrilo or better teamspeak 3.

I thing teamspeak 3 would be the best solution, since it got the highest possible codec with Kelt MONO for voice communication so far afaik and a really good permission system.

Epic would be, if lam and karl would setup such a server for the altitude community.
Then they could add an "Insert your TS3 Identity" textbox/filechooser for full game owners, which would send this identity to the server, and link it to your account, while inserting it into the TS3 database in a servergroup called Altitudeplayers.

This group would have talkrights, channelswitch rights, so this way just altitudeplayers could use this server.
