It is fun for mockups, but the framerate is awful.

normally I'd delete this as spam, but game maker actually is a nice little tool for people who want to make small games, and it's the kind of thing this community might be interested in, so meh.

I once played around a bit with Game Maker and was able to create a couple cool arcade-ish 2D games. The drag and drop interface is especially useful for beginners, and the scripting language is actually quite powerful once you get the hang of it.

That being said the best thing I ever created with Game Maker was a hotseat one-map "Tank Wars" game. If you're interested PM me and I'll try to dig up a copy for those who have way too much time on their hands.

I forgot to add as a P.S: a couple of months ago yoyogames released the beta of the Mac version, and I volunteered to be one of the "bug-reporters." As of that time, they had done such a bad job on the Mac version as to make it completely unusable (imagine trying to type code in 4 point font). Don't know if it's gotten any better since then, but because of that the games - if you can call them games - that I made only work on Windows machines.

Altitude trivia: a game matching that exact description was one of the three games that came on the cart that the original Intellivision Biplanes (which inspired Altitude) was on.

Is that related to the old two-player DOS game? I'm thinking of the one that's basically real-time scorched earth, top-down view with about ten tanks available to each player. The trick was that you could only move/pivot/fire one at a time, so you had to pay close attention to know where the next shots were coming from.

Next Nimbly project, gogo.

no, it was pretty much a clone of the tank variants from the old Atari game Combat.

you might be thinking of liero?
