Congrats to Arr for pulling out the win. Welll earned
But a few words from me about how I ran the league, and how it is to be improved. 1) The last week Ball had to play 2g4u twice. Which is somewhat messed up as its basically one extended series, I was in two minds of what to do here so they just played once and I was very unclear to Mat (e.g. its technically required but it doesn't really matter). So just to clarify I thought it best to play just the 1 time between the two teamsthis week unless both were eager. I failed when they looked to me for a ruling here- sorry, hope it didn't both you guys too much. In the future games must be completed within a time frame of the match date, if a team has a scheduled time that hasn't changed and doesn't show up they will forfeit. I.e. If your team rage quits from a previous loss they will lose the next match too. The other team may wish to reschedule, this will not be allowed on the spur of the moment. Must be done earlier, in the weekly sky league thread. 2) Teams dropped out and teams stayed, thanks to those who stuck it out and Kuja + 2G4U for coming in late, even with 4 teams people had a lot of fun (even Wolfe no matter what his protestations. Thanks for joining and playing 3) Running a league is hard, the time commitment is hard. I was supposed to be out drinking (with a long open bar) but I came home to sober up as the other admins were busy at the time (understandable). This probably didn't make me the most agreeable person. 4) Looking for admins/co-admins to help me run it. You will need to be free to attend most of the weeks of the league to oversee. Also must be able to control abuse of powers, its hard. 5) some new teams have popped up, rather then what happened last time where many registered then dropped out, there will be a tournament before, new teams must attend said tourney to have an entry to skyleague. 6) There are several tournaments coming up (From Mav's thread) so when Skyleague 2 starts is still up for debate. Thank you all CCN P.S. If any1 recorded arr tv0 game pls send me a PM I'll make sure to get someone to record in the future. Last edited by CCN; 05-15-2010 at 09:21 PM. |

#3 - I'll second what D4rt said earlier... thank you CCN (and the other admins, but especially CCN) for creating and organizing this league. It is a lot of work, and all of the ball teams appreciate it.
#5 - This is a great idea. Some sort of short tourney (or maybe there's another word for it) to make sure teams show, have enough players, etc. |

Firstly congrats to arr for winning the tournament, and also well done for the organization! Although I wasn't part of it, I was always interested to hear the results, and it sounds like its been a success!
Secondly, I'll be happy to help out with recording games in the next sky league if you need an extra "camera". Just let me know. Thirdly, keep us updated on the next preliminary tournament! I'm sure ICE will want to be part of it (I'm not so certain as to how well we'll perform though!) |

Thanks Dougie and of course thanks CCN and his admins for running the league.
After a not-so promising start, it ended in a crazy suspense the last day with many teams having a shot at the title. Despite many teams dropping, it turned out the remaining ones had enough to maintain an interesting ball level. Hopefully, it will inspire new clans to take it seriously and have a shot at the next one (Which if you are reading, you have absolutely no chance at, but please do try ![]() This next one in question, I think, could use a few improvements : -In my opinion, it would make the games more interesting if they were played in a best of 5 format all along. I find best of 3 a little too quick and unforgiving if a team makes a mistake. It could also lead to teams with a large roster to experiment new strats and line-ups from game to game. The only downside I see would be the time requirement. Maybe it would involve playing each team only once or maybe it could work fine by letting teams arrange their schedule. -An endlessly touchy subject is the maps played, and instead of the admins choosing them, I could see more involvement by the teams concerned. It could be something like a veto system on the whole map pool. Or the first map decided randomly and after that the next would be at the loser's discretion. -Not less touchy, while the lag will never go away completely, it could be handled more fairly. After all, us Pirates Kings Overlords Metagodfathers of ball are almost all europeans, so why would we have to suffer the obnoxious US latency each match ? Sure because the servers are graciously offered by people and praise them all for that, but we could find euro servers to play and even conditions a bit. In fact, we already had them at disposal during this league. Now concretely, if teams play each other twice it would be pretty easy. We would just have to play Home and Away on each server. Even more concretely, it might not be possible if many teams jump in the ball fest and it would be just fine, I'd gladly sacrifice some milliseconds for pounds of fresh meat. Debriefing already too long. Just throwing ideas there. Don't shoot the suggester. Side tourney good idea. Again league was great. Yarr. |
