So what does everyone think of the new Dumb Bombs for the bomber?
I really like them so far. they're more interesting and fun to use than the smart bombs. And having them along with grenades is interesting, firepower-wise. I wonder if they might be better paired with the tailgun and given extra damage, though. The poor Bomber keeps struggling to find a weapon setup. It was originally intended to tear up the enemy airfield, but now that the base is immune to normal weapons and most turrets are on walls and ceilings, it's left without a primary role, and two of its three red perks don't even have bombs. I wonder if it might be better to just change the name and remove the expectations. "Bomber" is a pretty dull name anyway, and it's just confusing now that the Big Bomb is so important--you can bomb without being a Bomber, and you can be a Bomber without bombs. |

u have a point i miss bombing bases with the bomber. but the original set up for the bomber is pointless with out bombs being able to hurt the base or being more powerful. plus it's slow and bulky now. this is probably the hardest plane to make even and balanced. the grenades are really good... but it is the bomber....

I shudder to say this, but perhaps the bomber could be optimized for killing turrets? It makes more sense for what its claiming to be than the grenades, anyways.
Alright, potential bomber red perks I'm thinking of Dumb bombs. Yeah, original. Smart bombs. God no, not the ones that it had, but semi homing bombs that only guide underneath you. Maybe a higher priority on turrets/afterburning targets? Cruise missiles. Not sure how it would work; probably something similar to the explodet missile, but a touch smaller and with less knockback. Maybe multiple shots in the air at once. Flak tailgun <333 Piercing tailgun? Either add more piercing weapons or remove them altogether if you're removing Miranda's pierce and only leaving the Heavy Cannon. Obviously tailgun would be less powerful than HC. Grenades are a mixed bag for me. I love using them, but they're a tad ridiculous and prone to spamming. No idea on what could change/they could be changed to, though. |

If you want the bomber to have the Turret Destroyer type role you suggested, I wanted to point out that the grenades are very effective against turrets if you are good at aiming them.

Based on the old Version 1 Altitude experience i had, The bomber had domb bombs and an aiming tailgun, and it worked out well, especially cause it did more damage to buildings then any other plane. It was the explodette's job of the biplanes job to take out higher turrets. It was a bulky plane, but it didnt stall easily, which was another redeeming feature.
Now looking at the New Altitude, i see that the bomber does take the support craft role in this game. It has the weapon setups for defending itself and bombing turrets. Sadly, the base doesn't take any damage when you fire upon it now. Personally, i feel that the bomber is a well made plane that fits in the nook it needs to be in. The dumb bombs is a welcomed revival of the old altitude style; it sort of makes you wish smart bombs never exsisted. It is more up to player skill for effective weapon usage (loopy users are exempt, of course, cheating bastards...) The only recomendation i can insue is to have dumb bombs, and ONLY dumb bombs, deal miniscule amounts of damage to the base. It would be nice to have something OTHER then JUST the nuke deal base damage. |

I do think bombers need to be buffed a bit after removal of smartbombs

Could we just go back to the original bomber? Dumb bombs and a tracking tailgun, with grenades as an unlockable perk.
The bomber was arguably the hardest plane to use in dogfights, and I liked the challenge of having no forward-firing weapon. I liked the addition of smart bombs, but I can understand the frustration of getting hit by one of the more well-guided shots. The current config with grenades on primary fire, bombs on secondary, no tailgun--it isn't fun anymore. I still don't think smart bombs are unfixable, but if we're going back to dumb bombs then tail gun + bombs is much better than grenade + bombs. The problem with grenade + bombs is that they are basically the same attack, just one shoots faster in front of you and one shoots slower below you.
I'm not a huge fan of grenades these days in general (but I think they are fixable). My main complaints are that they play too much like other attacks and they are too spammy/insta-killy.Bouncing grenades were more interesting, it gave you some ability to shoot around corners which was fun. What if you could control the initial velocity of your grenades (and by extension their path of travel) by holding f for a split second before firing? So if you wanted to shoot a grenade max distance you would press f and hold it for maybe a second, then it would launch out at max speed. If you wanted to shoot closer you could just tap f and it would shoot the grenade out just in front of you. |

I've always been curious to see what a more pronounced lob arc would feel like, but I don't think I'd get much crazier than that personally.
I also think that some of the longtimers are starting to get itchy and just want to start messing with stuff that's already fine just for the sake of doing something. I've been guilty of this more than once myself, but hrm. Just something to think about. |

I'd be interested in this. I'm not sure a game like Altitude really needs to have a forward-firing weapon on every plane. With the bombs powered up somewhat, Bombs+Tailgun could really be a contender.

This has been tried a couple of times... it's pretty crappy. It's kind of fun, but it's just inherently crappy in dogfights.

Make grenades into grenades with a setable fuse that do not just explode upon impact? .5 sec, 1 sec,1.5. That way you have to time your shots and not just spray.
